Job Title: Mechanical & Piping Field Engineer

Duration: Initial 12 month contract

Schedule: Monday - Friday 40 hours a week

Location: Boden, SE

This opportunity supports a major green steel project in northern Sweden, focused on decarbonising hard-to-abate industry through green hydrogen, green iron and green steel production. The role offers involvement across construction and commissioning activities within a large-scale industrial plant, with a strong emphasis on mechanical equipment, piping systems and field engineering support. This position will suit candidates with experience resolving technical site issues, coordinating across disciplines and contributing to safe, reliable and constructable engineering outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide field engineering support for mechanical equipment and piping systems during construction and commissioning.
• Support the steel mill mechanical and piping team, as well as other project areas requiring mechanical or piping expertise.
• Review and resolve technical issues arising during construction, installation, testing and commissioning.
• Ensure installations comply with project requirements, approved design documentation, applicable legislation and recognised industry standards.
• Review site queries, technical deviations, inspection findings and requests for information, providing practical engineering recommendations.
• Coordinate with construction teams, EPCM contractors, vendors, engineering disciplines and other project stakeholders to resolve field issues efficiently.
• Verify equipment layouts, piping arrangements, installation quality and site modifications against approved drawings and specifications.
• Support the identification and implementation of safe, reliable and constructable technical solutions.
• Participate in site inspections, technical meetings, walkdowns and commissioning activities.
• Provide field feedback to engineering teams and support communication of lessons learned and required design updates.
• Support preparation and review of as-built documentation and close-out activities.

Required Education & Certifications

• Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Required Experience

• Minimum 8 years of mechanical or piping engineering experience on large-scale industrial projects.
• Practical field engineering experience during construction and commissioning.
• Experience in industries such as steel, process, energy, oil and gas, or similar industrial sectors.
• Experience addressing and resolving mechanical technical issues on site.

Required Skills

• Strong experience with both piping systems and mechanical equipment.
• Knowledge of relevant national and international codes and standards.
• Working knowledge of required software tools for design and drawings.
• Knowledge and awareness of safety and quality norms.
• Good understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, standards, installation requirements and commissioning activities.
• Ability to work effectively with contractors, vendors, construction teams and engineering disciplines.
• Strong communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in a dynamic site environment.

Preferred Education & Certifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Preferred Skills, Experience & Qualifications

• Experience supporting mechanical design leads and mechanical design managers to address design issues and value engineering matters.
• Some in-house engineering experience.
