Job description

Join NYFORS and help shape the next generation of precision optical fiber processing equipment.

NYFORS is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join our team in Stockholm. For more than 39 years we have been a pioneer in precision fiber optic processing, with customers across Medical, High-Power Laser, Telecom, Aerospace and Defense. Our equipment is designed in-house, built in Sweden, and trusted by universities, research labs and leading industrial partners around the world.

In this role you will develop the software that brings our high-precision machines to life. You will write the code that controls sensors, actuators and laser systems at the heart of next-generation fiber optic technology, working close to the hardware, close to the lab, and close to the people using what you build.

THE TEAM

You will be part of a small, skillful and passionate team of development engineers, mechanical engineers and physicists, all dedicated to designing innovative, high-precision systems for optical fiber processing. We enjoy the moment when software, electronics, optics and mechanics finally come together, and we find it genuinely rewarding to see our products succeed in our customers' hands.

Quality and longevity matter to us. We build products that are still in active use after more than 20 years, and we take sustainability seriously in how we design, support and maintain them.

THE POSITION

Because we are a relatively small team, you get to take part in the whole journey, from early research and lab experiments all the way to the finished product in the field. As an Embedded Software Engineer you will help evolve our existing product portfolio and develop completely new products, working side by side with our mechanical designers and physicists in our laser laboratories.

The main focus of your work is embedded software, but you will also touch higher-level application and UI code when a project calls for it. Our lab and machines are built with C, C++, C# and LabVIEW, so solid experience with embedded development and one or more of these languages is important.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Design, implement and test embedded software that controls sensors, actuators, motors and laser systems.

  • Fine-tune the interaction between software and hardware through hands-on experiments in our labs.

  • Contribute to new product development from concept to release, together with mechanical and electronics designers.

  • Improve and maintain the software of our existing product portfolio.

  • Support customers and internal users with technical expertise when needed.

YOUR BACKGROUND

We are looking for someone who brings:

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in software or firmware development.

  • Hands-on experience with embedded programming.

  • Working knowledge of one or more of C, C++, C#.

  • A relevant degree (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or similar), but equivalent practical experience is equally valued.

  • Strong team player with good communication skills in English.

  • An interest in process development, hardware experimentation and seeing ideas turn into real products is a strong plus.

WHAT WE OFFER
  • A diverse and stimulating role in a high-tech company with deep expertise in photonics and precision mechanics.

  • The opportunity to develop and broaden your skills across embedded software, hardware, optics and product development.

  • Modern, high-tech equipment and dedicated, knowledgeable colleagues.

  • A flexible work schedule and a healthy work-life balance.

  • Regular team activities such as running, swimming and other social events.

  • An international and inclusive workplace. Our current team hails from five different countries, and we are always looking to widen our horizon.

  • A full-time position based at our main office in Skrubba, Stockholm, Sweden.
