Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Aftermarket Diagnostics Engineer to develop and verify workshop-ready diagnostic fault-tracing methods for vehicle repair and service operations. The role involves analysis, development, documentation, and verification of aftermarket diagnostic content in collaboration with cross-functional engineering, digital, and service teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Map vehicle functions to relevant aftermarket customer functions.
- Develop FMEA-based diagnostic content for aftermarket service applications.
- Create and maintain signal information for diagnostic systems.
- Prepare Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) information for Electronic Control Units (ECUs).
- Develop component tests and manage component variants.
- Create parameter and activation descriptions for ECUs.
- Develop diagnostic sequences, service functions, and pre-delivery service procedures.
- Prepare component specifications and technical inspection documentation.
- Define customer symptom codes and supporting diagnostic content.
- Analyze engineering inputs including:
- System and software specifications
- Configuration and calibration data
- Technical specifications
- Plan and manage assigned features, objectives, deliverables, dependencies, and backlog activities.
- Support regular synchronization, planning, and refinement meetings.
- Coordinate verification activities and ensure availability of required test objects.
- Escalate missing, incomplete, or unclear technical information when required.
- Perform end-to-end validation of diagnostic methods for workshop and service environments.
- Technical specification reviews.
- Prototype verification support and test equipment validation.
- Vehicle function mapping and diagnostic content creation.
- DTC definitions, parameters, and activation information.
- FMEA content, component tests, and diagnostic sequences.
- Signal information and default diagnostic definitions.
- Service-function and pre-delivery service scripts.
- End-to-end testing, validation, and verification reports.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience within the automotive industry, preferably in vehicle diagnostics, fault tracing, or aftermarket services.
- Ability to analyse: DTCs, Signals, Customer symptoms, Vehicle functions, Components, Wiring diagrams, Network topologies
- Strong understanding of automotive diagnostic standards.
- Good knowledge of UDS (ISO 14229), including: Diagnostic sessions, DTCs, DIDs, Routines, I/O controls, Parameters and activations
- Experience working with in-vehicle digital systems and ECUs.
- Understanding of CAN, LIN, and automotive communication networks.
- Basic understanding of vehicle configuration management, ECU variants, and applicability handling.
- Experience developing: Diagnostic sequences, Component tests, Fault-tracing methods
- Experience with vehicle, bench, prototype, or diagnostic-system verification.
- Knowledge of scripting tools, logic-based development methods, or high-level programming languages.
- Ability to transform engineering data into structured service and diagnostic content.
- Strong teamwork and stakeholder management capabilities.
Technical Skills
Experience with automotive diagnostic development environments, service-authoring platforms, fault analysis tools, and diagnostic verification tools is highly desirable.
Preferred knowledge includes:
- Automotive diagnostic authoring tools
- Service and repair information systems
- ECU diagnostics and communication protocols
- Fault-tracing and root-cause analysis tools
- Diagnostic content management systems
- UDS diagnostics and related standards
