As part of Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) organisation, you will lead teams responsible for the operation and maintenance of critical data centre infrastructure supporting services such as Azure, Microsoft 365, Bing, OneDrive, and Xbox. CO+I is the backbone of Microsoft's cloud platform, operating a global network of more than 200 datacentres across 32 countries.

In this role, you will combine technical expertise, operational excellence, and people leadership to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mission‑critical systems. Responsibilities

Critical Environment Operations
  • Act as a technical leader across critical infrastructure disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, controls, and generator systems.
  • Oversee inspections of critical facility equipment and identify operational trends and risks.
  • Monitor building management, telemetry, and control systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Manage work orders, asset tracking, and reporting through CMMS platforms.
  • Lead incident response activities during operational events or outages.
  • Develop and improve emergency operating procedures (EOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and corrective action planning.
Maintenance & Reliability
  • Lead planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities across critical systems.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert within your area of technical expertise.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and operational guidance to technicians.
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors, vendors, and service providers working onsite.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and in compliance with approved procedures and regulations.
  • Support technical decision‑making and provide coaching on inspections, repairs, and issue resolution.
Safety & Operational Excellence
  • Champion a strong safety‑first culture.
  • Ensure compliance with Microsoft, regulatory, and environmental health and safety requirements.
  • Conduct and support job hazard assessments, toolbox talks, and risk reviews.
  • Identify and elevate unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Participate in operational reviews, training programmes, and shift handovers.
  • Promote quality, reliability, and continuous improvement across all operations.
Other
  • Demonstrate and champion Microsoft's culture and values in all aspects of the role.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Significant experience in mission‑critical environments such as data centres, critical infrastructure, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, hospitals, oil and gas, or similar industries.
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Ability to work shift schedules, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays when required.
Security Requirements

Candidates must meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including successful completion of the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional mission‑critical operations experience within high‑availability environments.
  • Associate's degree, technical trade qualification, military technical training, or equivalent higher education.
  • Expertise in a specialised discipline such as electrical systems, mechanical systems, controls, or related critical facility technologies.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage operational risk, and drive reliable facility performance.
