Job summary

Klarna's global centre of excellence for sanctions, PEP and adverse media screening seeks a Screening Adjudication Expert to own end-to-end processes, supervise vendor performance, and handle the most complex cases.

You will drive improvements with AI and automation, maintain SOPs, stay updated on EU/UK/UN regimes, onboard teammates, and support audits while delivering high-quality decisions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years hands-on experience across sanctions screening, PEP or adverse media investigations in fintech or banking.
• Breadth across at least two of the three screening disciplines with ability to quickly build expertise in new areas.
• Demonstrable curiosity about AI and automation with hands-on use of AI-assisted tools or adoption of tech to solve problems.
• Strong written communication and disciplined documentation to maintain audit trails.

Responsibilities

• Own the operational health of sanctions, PEP, and adverse media screening processes and act as the single contact for vendor performance and internal escalations.
• Personally conduct alert reviews, PEP and high-risk case investigations, and adverse media assessments during volume spikes or vendor disruptions.
• Review vendor output critically, challenge decisions when warranted, and escalate confirmed matches and sensitive cases appropriately.
• Identify friction points and implement improvements with vendor, Product, and Tech teams, including AI and automation.
• Test and implement AI/automation solutions to improve throughput, consistency, and alert quality with Product and Tech.
• Maintain up-to-date SOPs reflecting current regulatory requirements and internal standards.
• Track screening performance against SLA targets and flag risks early; stay updated on EU/UN/UK regimes and other applicable rules.
• Support blocking, freezing, or reporting actions under sanctions regimes and assist with audits and regulatory examinations.
• Onboard and train new team members on screening processes, tools, and escalation frameworks across all three disciplines.
