Job summary

Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Surveying or Geomatics and at least 2 years of experience in underground mining operations. Key Accountabilities
  • •Systems & Documentation
    oApply and maintain underground survey procedures, templates and checklists (control establishment, pickups, CMS/LiDAR workflows, EOM packs)
    oEnsure all technical documentation, templates, reports, guidelines are clear and accurate.
    oMaintain the survey database and drawing standards (naming, layers, revisions) to corporate conventions.
  • •Survey Control & Execution
    oDesign, install and verify primary and secondary control underground; and conduct regular check surveys and calibration to maintain data accuracy.
    oDeliver set‑outs for Maaden and sub-contractors outside of the scope of the mining contractor (geological drilling, construction etc.) and perform QA/QC checks to confirm as‑built conformance.
    oPerform QA/QC checks on the underground mining contractor’s surveying and mining works
    oComplete pickups and laser/CMS/lidar scans of headings, stopes and voids; update the void model and produce reconciliation against designs for dilution, over/under‑break. plan compliance, and contractor payment certificates.
  • •Planning, Integration and Support
    oProvide timely survey inputs to weekly/monthly plans and sequencing; issue clear survey notes/mark‑ups supporting safe, executable work
    oMaintain an up to date and accurate survey as‑built database; inclusive of voids, services and all relevant information to inform accurate and safe mine planning.
    oCollaborate and review plans with technical services teams to ensure designs and instructions are practical and compliant with operating standards and procedures.
  • •Safety & Compliance
    oLive the Maaden values and promote a safety-first culture
    oKeep statutory and emergency plans are up to date (underground plans, escapeways/refuge, services, survey control, ventilation flow) and ensure traceable revisions for audits and inspections.
    oAdhere to health, safety, and environmental policies
    oManage and calibrate survey instruments, including total stations and laser scanners.
  • •Reporting & Governance
    oCompile End‑of‑Month survey packs: development and stope as‑builts, CMS volumes, reconciliation dashboards, plan‑vs‑actual variance commentary.
    oManage document control for drawings and records; maintain data quality suitable for external reporting (regulatory inspections, technical studies, MSHEM compliance inspections etc.)
  • •Continuous Improvement
    oAssist in implementing best practice technology and surveying methods (e.g., Lidar/CMS/laser scanning workflows; streamlined data exchanges with planning tools) and optimise turnaround from field to issuable mark‑ups.
    oIdentify and promote initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce cost
  • •Leadership & Mentoring
    oMentor and guide junior engineers and non-technical staff on surveying best practices
  • •Support
    oProvide technical support to operations, ensuring alignment with production goals and standards.
    oPrepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for management.
    oAny other duties as required to achieve operational goals.
Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
  • Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelor’s degree in Surveying or Geomatics or related field.
  • Minimum Experience:
    Minimum 2 years’ experience in underground mining operations, with at least one year performing a mine surveying function.

  • Skills:
    Proficient with surveying hardware inclusive of total stations, drones, Lidar, GPS, CMS/laser scanning, and underground control network tools.
    Proficient with underground surveying software inclusive of Deswik, Surpac, and point cloud processing software.
    Knowledge of underground mining methods, techniques, and equipment
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
