Job summary

AECOM is seeking a senior Safety, Health & Environment Lead to supervise HSE oversight across civil, MEP, fit-out and specialist installation activities. You will monitor contractor compliance with project HSE requirements and ensure risks in shared areas are controlled.

You will lead HSE inspectors, review plans and risk assessments, and verify inductions, toolbox talks, training and competence across the site. Strong leadership and UK construction HSE experience are essential.

Qualifications

Degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or related discipline.
NEBOSH General Certificate in Construction Health & Safety (or equivalent recognised qualification).
Minimum 12 years' experience in construction HSE management across large-scale projects.
Experience leading HSE inspection teams and professionals.
Proven ability to develop and implement HSE strategies, inspection programmes and governance frameworks.

Responsibilities

Establish the consultant’s HSE monitoring strategy, inspection programme and reporting procedures.
Lead HSE inspectors and allocate coverage according to site activities and risk levels.
Review contractors’ HSE plans, risk assessments, emergency procedures and safety provisions.
Verify implementation of site inductions, toolbox talks, training and competency checks.
Monitor permit-to-work arrangements for high-risk activities and electrical isolation.
Conduct inspections and audits, document unsafe conditions and verify corrective actions.
Monitor safety interfaces between base building, fit-out, MEP and specialist contractors.
Review controls for shared access, exclusion zones and movement of workers/equipment.
Monitor temporary electrical installations, scaffolding and access equipment.
Verify fire prevention measures and safe storage of materials.
Monitor energisation, testing, start-up and lockout/tagout procedures.
Verify emergency access, evacuation plans and drills.
Review incident investigations and root-cause actions.
Monitor environmental controls for waste, dust, noise and chemicals.
Maintain HSE dashboards and escalation processes.
