Job summary

Lever, Inc. is seeking a Product Engineering Lead based in Saudi Arabia to scale a peer-to-peer messaging and video-calling product. You will lead API and frontend teams, translate product strategy into reliable features, and own technical decisions with significant ownership.

The role blends leadership, product collaboration, and hands-on technical work. You will work with product leadership, report to the CTO, and drive engineering strategy for a globally distributed consumer product focused

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading software teams delivering consumer-facing products at scale.
• Strong product sense to distinguish high-value opportunities from unnecessary complexity.
• Deep proficiency in JavaScript and React for frontend architectures.
• Understanding of distributed and local-first systems, including offline-first operation.
• Ability to collaborate with product leaders and contribute to product strategy.
• Strong technical leadership skills, setting engineering standards and guiding architecture.
• Initiative, curiosity, resilience in fast-moving environments with autonomy.
• Excellent communication and ability to give/receive direct feedback.
• Balance of strategic leadership with hands-on technical involvement when needed.
• Bonus: experience with local-first apps, CRDTs, synchronization engines, offline-capable apps, or open-source projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the API and frontend engineering teams, removing blockers and ensuring delivery momentum.
• Maintain high standards for performance, reliability, and clean API design.
• Own technical design of product features and API boundaries between core and frontend.
• Foster collaboration between API engineers and specialized teams on reviews and decisions.
• Partner with Product Managers to translate roadmap into viable initiatives.
• Challenge scope and propose alternative approaches for feasibility and impact.
• Bring distributed-systems perspective to product decisions and leverage P2P/local-first tech.
• Promote rapid experimentation using AI-assisted development and prototypes.
• Create clarity around team objectives, priorities, and success metrics.
• Mentor engineering leads and strengthen team processes and collaboration.
• Contribute technically when needed while enabling teams to own more.
