Job summary

Lever, Inc. is seeking a Staff Engineer (Core & MLOps) based in Saudi Arabia to architect and lead the core control planes for large‑scale, AI‑driven data platforms.

You will tackle distributed systems challenges with Kubernetes, Kafka, Java, Python, gRPC, and multi‑cloud infrastructure, while mentoring engineers across multiple squads in a remote‑first setup. You will define reliability practices, service contracts, and architectural standards that shape platform strategy and drive

Qualifications

• 10+ years building scalable distributed backend systems.
• Advanced Java with reactive frameworks (Vert.x/Netty) and Python.
• Deep experience with gRPC and Protocol Buffers, including schema evolution and backward compatibility.
• Kubernetes at scale, Terraform, and Kafka production exposure.
• Experience designing telemetry pipelines or feedback systems using production data.
• Strong reliability engineering: SLOs/SLIs, fault tolerance, and service contracts.
• Exceptional technical writing and cross-team alignment abilities.
• Global, remote-first collaboration and excellent communication skills.
• Curious, continuous learner with interest in new tech and architectures.
• MLOps experience is a plus; Temporal/DBOS is a plus.
• Familiarity with zero-trust networking and service meshes (SPIRE, mTLS, Istio, Envoy).

Responsibilities

• Architect and evolve core control and context planes for services and AI-driven workflows.
• Maintain and improve Java/Python client libraries, Helm charts, and deployment pipelines.
• Define inter-service contracts, including gRPC, protobufs, and API gateway policies.
• Improve platform infra across Kubernetes, Terraform, HAProxy/Nginx, Kafka, and databases modernization.
• Lead architectural strategy via RFDs for orchestration and multi-cluster routing.
• Establish reliability practices: SLOs/SLIs, fault isolation, canary deployments.
• Lead on-call rotations, post-mortems, and drive platform improvements.
• Mentor engineers across squads and promote reliable software practices.
