Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Saudi Arabia seeks an experienced Planning Manager to lead scheduling, controls, and reporting for a major site supervision project in Riyadh. You will align design, procurement, construction, testing, and handover activities with client milestones and manage risk-based scheduling decisions.

The role requires 15+ years in planning and 8+ years in a Planning Manager position on large developments, with strong CPM/EVM knowledge and English fluency. Saudi/GCC experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related discipline.
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Project Management is preferred.
  • Professional certification such as PMP, PMI-SP, AACE, PSP (Planning & Scheduling Professional), or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 15+ years of total professional experience in planning, scheduling, and project controls.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a Planning Manager role on major building and construction projects.
  • Proven experience in large-scale building developments, convention centres, hospitality projects, hotels, resorts, mixed-use developments, or comparable mega-projects.
  • Extensive experience within Site Supervision Consultancy, PMC, or Engineering Consultancy environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and project control reporting tools.
  • Strong understanding of Critical Path Method (CPM), Earned Value Management (EVM), and schedule forecasting techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in delay analysis, claim assessment, and Extension of Time evaluation.
  • Good knowledge of FIDIC contracts and construction contract administration processes.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in Saudi Arabia or GCC projects is highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical, commercial, and contractual information to support project decision-making.
  • Fluency in English is required; Arabic language skills are an advantage.

Job Description Overview We are seeking a highly experienced Planning Manager to lead project planning, scheduling, project controls, progress monitoring, and reporting activities for a prestigious site supervision consultancy assignment in Riyadh. The Planning Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the project is delivered in accordance with approved schedules, contractual milestones, and client objectives. The role involves working closely with the Client, Project Director, Resident Engineer, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to provide strategic planning support, schedule analysis, risk assessment, and performance reporting throughout the construction lifecycle. The successful candidate will play a key role in identifying potential delays, mitigating schedule risks, and ensuring effective project execution from mobilization through commissioning and handover.

Your role
  • Lead and manage all planning, scheduling, and project controls activities for the project.
  • Review, assess, and recommend approval of contractor baseline schedules, revised schedules, and recovery programs.
  • Develop and maintain the overall master schedule incorporating design, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover activities.
  • Monitor project performance and progress against approved schedules and contractual milestones.
  • Conduct critical path analysis and identify schedule risks, delays, and potential bottlenecks.
  • Analyze contractor progress and verify reported progress against actual site achievements.
  • Evaluate mitigation and recovery plans proposed by contractors to address project delays.
  • Prepare and present weekly, monthly, and executive progress reports highlighting schedule performance, risks, and forecast completion dates.
  • Lead schedule review meetings and planning workshops with project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with engineering, construction, commercial, and supervision teams to ensure schedule alignment.
  • Review and monitor procurement schedules, material delivery schedules, and authority approval timelines.
  • Assess contractor manpower, equipment, and resource allocations against project requirements.
  • Perform productivity analysis and monitor construction performance indicators.
  • Maintain and update project dashboards, progress measurement systems, and project control tools.
  • Support commercial teams in the evaluation of Extension of Time (EOT) claims, delay analysis, and disruption claims.
  • Conduct forensic schedule analysis and provide recommendations on schedule-related contractual matters.
  • Identify potential project risks and opportunities and support the maintenance of the project risk register.
  • Ensure compliance with project controls procedures, reporting standards, and client requirements.
  • Monitor testing, commissioning, and handover activities to ensure timely project completion.
  • Provide strategic advice to project leadership on schedule optimization and project delivery improvements.
  • Mentor and supervise planning engineers and project control staff.
