Job description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides direct outpatient care in all areas of periodontics and general dentistry in consultation with dental specialists, physicians, and other health professionals.

  • Conducts patient examination and evaluation: examines clinically, radiographically; identifies developmental abnormalities; orders radiographs; diagnoses pathology; interviews patients, records medical history; orders lab tests; plans treatment courses.
  • Provides patient education and management: ascertains patient interest; performs preventive procedures (dietary analysis, caries susceptibility tests, prophylaxis, fluoride therapy, oral hygiene instructions, fissure sealants); prescribes pre-medications, administers local anesthetics; recognizes adverse reactions.
  • Conducts patient treatment: prevents, diagnoses, and treats periodontal diseases; cleans and polishes teeth; eliminates filling margins; corrects occlusion; performs surgical and non-surgical periodontal treatment (scaling and root planing, tray delivery systems); surgical procedures (gum grafts, regenerative procedures, crown lengthening, bone grafts, implant placement, pocket reduction, extractions, sinus lifts, laser therapy); adjusts occlusion and prepares teeth for prosthetic placement; restores decayed and fractured teeth; performs other oral surgical procedures; provides emergency after-hours services to hospital in-patients, outpatients, and ER referrals.
  • Recognizes orthodontic problems; designs, fits, and adjusts removable appliances.
  • Recognizes and manages oral pathology; refers when necessary; possesses basic knowledge of general medicine.
  • Utilizes behavior management techniques (restraint, laughing gas, conscious sedation, general anesthesia).
  • Personnel management: directs auxiliaries; evaluates dental assistant work; consults with laboratory personnel.
  • Professionalism: recognizes limitations; refers patients appropriately; commits to quality care; participates in continuing education; performs duties as assigned; provides coordinated care; treats patients with dignity, compassion, respect; involves patients in decisions; educates patients, families, caregivers; supports education of health professionals.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Dentistry.
  • Licensed or registered to practice dentistry in country of origin or Saudi Arabia.
  • Successful completion of written and practical Dental Examination administered by Dental Clinic Supervisory Personnel.
  • Three years of post-doctorate education specific to periodontics and possibly a hospital internship.
