Job summary

Cooper Fitch is recruiting a Manager – Hot Finishing Lines to oversee the safe, efficient operation of the Hot Strip Rolling Line (HSRL) and Hot Skin Pass Mill (HSPM). You will drive daily production targets, ensure product quality, plant availability and cost control while leading a skilled team.

The role requires strong leadership, knowledge of hot rolling processes, and experience with SAP, Q-Pulse and MS Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or Diploma with extensive experience in flat steel rolling.
• Experience leading production teams in steel manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of hot rolling processes and flat steel products.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operation of the HSRL and HSPM to achieve targets.
• Manage and develop the finishing lines team, including planning and training.
• Ensure safety procedures, operating standards and environmental requirements are followed.
• Monitor production performance, plant efficiency and operating costs.
• Identify and implement technical and operational improvements to raise quality and productivity.
• Monitor consumption of materials and control costs.
• Prepare and manage annual budgets and spares for the department.
• Collaborate with Maintenance to maximise equipment reliability and plant availability.
• Coordinate with Production Planning and Raw Material teams to meet targets.
• Investigate issues and implement corrective actions.
• Support resolution of customer complaints and prevent recurrence.
• Monitor KPIs and provide regular performance feedback.
• Maintain high standards of discipline, housekeeping and operational excellence.

Role Overview

The Manager – Hot Finishing Lines will be responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the Hot Strip Rolling Line (HSRL) and Hot Skin Pass Mill (HSPM).

The role will lead day-to-day operations, ensuring production targets, product quality, plant availability, yield, safety and cost objectives are achieved while driving continuous improvement across the operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day operation of the HSRL and HSPM to achieve production, quality, yield and plant availability targets.
• Manage and develop the Hot Finishing Lines team, including manpower planning, performance management and training.
• Ensure all safety procedures, operating standards and environmental requirements are followed.
• Monitor and improve production performance, plant efficiency and operating costs.
• Identify and implement technical and operational improvements to improve quality, productivity and efficiency.
• Monitor the use and consumption of raw materials, paint and other consumables and ensure effective cost control.
• Prepare and manage annual budgets, operational spares and consumables for the department.
• Work closely with Maintenance to maximise equipment reliability, safety and plant availability.
• Coordinate with Production Planning and Raw Material teams to ensure production targets are achieved.
• Investigate equipment, process and material-related problems and implement corrective actions.
• Support the resolution of customer complaints and ensure quality issues do not recur.
• Monitor KPIs and employee objectives and provide regular performance feedback.
• Maintain high standards of discipline, housekeeping and operational excellence.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical or Electrical Engineering with approximately 7+ years of relevant flat steel rolling experience; or
• Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical or Operations with approximately 10+ years of relevant experience; or
• Equivalent qualification with approximately 12+ years of relevant flat steel rolling experience.
• Strong leadership experience managing production teams in a steel manufacturing environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of hot rolling processes and flat steel products.
• Good understanding of steel rolling technologies, production processes and customer requirements.
• Experience with production KPIs, cost control and operational budgets.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Experience with systems such as SAP, Q-Pulse and MS Office.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
