Director – Heavy Metal Doors / Steel Manufacturing
We are currently recruiting an experienced Production Director to lead a specialist manufacturing division within an established industrial business.
Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a senior leadership position with responsibility for the overall performance of the division, including manufacturing operations, production planning, commercial performance, P&L, supply chain, quality, HSE and team leadership.
The successful candidate will come from a strong manufacturing background within heavy metal doors, hollow metal/fire-rated doors, structural steel or processing equipment and will have the ability to combine hands-on factory leadership with strategic and commercial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations and overall performance of the manufacturing division.
- Take full responsibility for production performance, capacity utilization and on-time project delivery.
- Manage divisional P&L, budgets, expenditure and profitability.
- Develop and control production plans in line with annual budgets and contractual delivery schedules.
- Work closely with Sales on pricing strategy, technical proposals and commercial negotiations.
- Support sales forecasting and wider business-development objectives.
- Partner with Engineering on product development, value engineering and design optimization.
- Oversee manufacturing operations, manpower, equipment, materials and production resources.
- Monitor project progress and ensure departments remain aligned with programme requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement, productivity and KPI performance.
- Ensure strong HSE, QA/QC and ISO compliance across shop-floor operations.
- Oversee inventory levels, procurement planning and supply-chain requirements.
- Coordinate NCRs, audits, qualifications, documentation and FAT activities.
- Lead, develop and mentor department heads and wider operational teams.

Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 15 years' experience within heavy metal doors, hollow metal doors, structural steel or processing-equipment manufacturing.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Strong factory, manufacturing or production-management background.
- Proven experience managing production planning, capacity and resources.
- Strong commercial understanding including budgeting and cost management.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and department heads.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing techniques, machinery and production technology.
- Good knowledge of international manufacturing and testing standards.
- Strong QA/QC and HSE awareness.
- Experience with ERP systems and manufacturing reporting.
- AutoCAD/design-software familiarity advantageous.
- PMP certification would be an advantage.
- Excellent English communication and stakeholder-management skills.
