Job summary

The Structural/Architectural Field Engineer at Bechtel Corporation is responsible for construction engineering within the Civil discipline, including concrete, structural steel, excavation/backfill, scaffolding and architectural finishes. The role spans from planning and material coordination to inspection, safety and turnover documentation for startup/commissioning.

The incumbent will interpret design and vendor drawings, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field with 10 years of progressive construction or civil engineering experience.
  • Ability to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs on construction sites.
  • Strong English language communication and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team and to share knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with engineering on constructability and design issues for commodity installations and sequencing.
  • Provide field engineering support to superintendents and ensure materials, equipment and quality meet design requirements.
  • Develop work plans, material take-offs, procurement requests, inspections, progress reporting and issue resolution.
  • Perform civil field engineering tasks including inspections, audits and planning for formwork, rebar, concrete, structural steel and architectural installations.
  • Ensure procedural compliance, material control and thorough documentation of inspections.

Project Overview

The Ar Rjum Project comprises a green field gold project with three open pit mining operations with associated waste dumps and ore stockpile, a processing plant, tailings management facilities, and supporting infrastructure including water supply, power supply, maintenance facilities, offices, temporary and permanent accommodation village.

The Project is situated within the Central Arabian Gold Region, approximately 200 km north-east of Taif towards Riyadh and about 26 km South of Al Mouwayh, which is a small town situated on the Jeddah - Riyadh highway.

Job Summary

The Structural/Architectural Field Engineer is responsible for tasks and activities relating to construction engineering within the Civil discipline (i.e., concrete, structural steel, excavation/backfill, scaffolding, architectural finishes) utilizing codes and standards. Responsibilities include the development of work plans, coordinating materials, performing, and documenting inspections, safety and quality control, reporting progress, and resolving conflicts in design and construction related to the installation and testing of commodities through turnover to Startup/Commissioning. This position will be responsible for a variety of construction tasks utilizing industrial codes and standards related to concrete, steel, earthwork, architectural installations. Duties include interpreting design and vendor drawings and specifications. This position requires good planning and organizational skills, ability to perform detailed inspections and the ability to produce accurate, clear, and concise documentation.

Major Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to commodity installations and work sequencing.
  • Provides field engineering support and assistance to superintendents, supporting personnel in meeting cost and time schedules, verifies materials, equipment, and quality, and assures results meet design requirements.
  • Develop work plans, coordinate material take-offs and requisitions, perform and document inspections, report progress, and resolve conflicts in design and construction related to the installation and testing of civil commodities.
  • Performs Civil Field Engineering activities including inspections, audits and planning to support the installation of formwork, rebar, concrete, structural steel, architectural, earthwork and performs rigging support and planning activities for material and equipment.
  • Assure procedural compliance, material control, and complete and thorough documentation of inspections for completed work.
  • Directs or performs preparation of quantity listings of field purchased material and equipment and initiates requisitions for field material purchases.
  • Supports preparation of construction drawings and schedules, design of temporary construction facilities and ensures preparation of as built drawings and other job plans.
  • Supports planning and delivery of construction materials and equipment, assuring that proper warehousing and storage exists to ensure environmental protection.
  • Review's specifications, purchase orders, subcontracts, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals, and technical data to assist and advise on site.
Education And Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related subject from an accredited university and 10 years of progressive construction or civil engineering experience; or in lieu of a degree, 15 years of relevant experience in the MENA region and a sound understanding of the cultural norms and requirements of the region
  • Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.
  • Strong English language communication and report writing skills.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, be a team player and have a knowledge sharing approach.
  • Ability to solve problems by thinking laterally and be able to understand the needs and requirements of the client and other entities – to provide technical compliance and trainings.
  • Must be able to work within a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team and manage challenging multi-cultural relationships.
  • Must be self-driven and able to plan and execute work without direct supervision from senior management and/or peers.
Required Knowledge And Skills
  • Thorough knowledge of all phases of engineering, design, construction and field activities.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Design Suite software programs, ability to prepare reports, and experience in 3D and 4D modelling software
  • Knowledge and application of Zero Accident Safety Philosophy.
  • Broad knowledge of Construction Standard Work Process Procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of current industry standards. Broad knowledge of the requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) handbook, the Supervisors ES&H Manual, the Project Safety Management Plan, and the Bechtel Core Processes to area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of company and project quality policies.
