Job summary

Confidential Government is seeking an experienced data governance leader to drive the organization's data governance framework and establish clear ownership across business and technology teams.

You will translate governance policies into day-to-day practices, track adoption across units, and develop dashboards to monitor data quality, risks, and remediation progress while guiding a data governance team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management or related field.
• At least 7 years of experience in data governance, data management, or data quality with leadership.
• Experience implementing governance policies, ownership, and adoption across functions.
• Working knowledge of data quality, metadata, cataloging, lineage, and master data management.
• Experience with enterprise data catalog or governance tools; CDMP certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the enterprise data governance framework, including policies, standards, decision rights, and escalation procedures.
• Lead the data governance roadmap, set priorities with stakeholders, and track implementation across business units.
• Establish data ownership and stewardship by helping business units appoint data owners and stewards, clarify responsibilities, and resolve cross-functional issues.
• Coordinate identification of critical data elements and oversee maintenance of definitions, metadata, and lineage in the data catalog.
• Partner with data owners and tech teams to define data quality rules, monitor performance, and follow up on remediation actions.
• Support governance of master and reference data by defining standards and ownership for shared data domains.
• Work with Legal, Compliance, Privacy, and Information Security to embed requirements into governance policies and controls.
• Review data requirements for new systems to ensure ownership, classification, quality, and lifecycle controls from design.
• Prepare governance dashboards and committee updates on policy adoption, data quality trends, risks, and remediation progress.
• Lead and develop the data governance team, set delivery priorities, and coach data stewards in applying standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain the enterprise data governance framework, including policies, standards, decision rights, and escalation procedures.
• Lead the data governance roadmap, set priorities with stakeholders, and track implementation across business units.
• Establish data ownership and stewardship by helping business units appoint data owners and stewards, clarify responsibilities, and resolve issues that require cross-functional decisions.
• Coordinate the identification of critical data elements and oversee the maintenance of business definitions, metadata, and data lineage in the enterprise data catalog.
• Partner with data owners and technology teams to define data quality rules and thresholds, monitor performance, and follow up on corrective actions.
• Support the governance of master and reference data by defining common standards and ownership for shared data domains.
• Work with Legal, Compliance, Privacy, and Information Security to embed applicable requirements into data governance policies, processes, and controls.
• Review data requirements for new systems and projects to ensure ownership, classification, quality, and lifecycle controls are addressed from the design stage.
• Prepare governance dashboards and committee updates covering policy adoption, data quality trends, open risks, and remediation progress.
• Lead and develop the data governance team, set delivery priorities, and coach data stewards on applying standards in their business areas.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management, or a related field.
• At least 7 years of experience in data governance, data management, or data quality, including experience leading a team or a cross-functional workstream.
• Practical experience implementing data governance policies, establishing data ownership, and driving adoption across business functions.
• Working knowledge of data quality, metadata management, data cataloging, data lineage, and master data management.
• Experience with enterprise data catalog, governance, or data quality tools is preferred. CDMP certification is an advantage.
