This pivotal role involves delivering high-quality engineering solutions for Substation Automation Systems across various sectors. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 5 years of experience, with strong knowledge of automation systems and relevant communication protocols. Job description
Automation Senior Design Engineer - Saudi Arabia/Jeddah

As a Substation Automation Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high quality engineering solutions for grid and Bulk Supply Point (BSP) substations and other specialized sectors. You will contribute throughout the complete engineering lifecycle, ensuring the successful design.

  • Studying and interpreting project technical documents, specifications, data sheets, and IEC standards to develop engineering drawings for Substation Automation Systems (SAS) and Remote terminal unit (RTU).
  • Designing automation system architectures for various industrial control domains including ICS, SCADA, and microgrids across sectors such as industrial facilities, stadiums, oil & gas, renewable energy, and other specialized sectors.
  • Preparing detailed design drawings and project technical compliance statements for customer review and approval.
  • Developing manufacturing drawings and all required documentation for panel fabrication.
  • Preparing comprehensive bills of materials (BOM) covering both hardware and software components for SAS.
  • Providing technical support to project managers, including attending customer meetings and clarifying technical issues.
  • Supporting tendering team with technical clarifications, and innovative solution proposals.
  • Collaborate with the procurement team by evaluating new vendors, reviewing technical offers, and ensuring alignment with project and standard requirements.
Your Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Substation Automation system.
  • Strong knowledge of automation systems and communication protocols such as IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3, etc.
  • Proficiency in system architecture design using software tools such as AutoCAD, Elecdes, MicroStation, and Microsoft Visio.
  • Familiarity with Siemens Substation Automation Systems in power system is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of power systems, IEDs and relevant IEC standards.
  • Experience working with Layer 2/Layer 3 network devices, industrial PCs, and related automation equipment like media and protocol converters.
  • Knowledge of Cyber security in power systems such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM tools and operating system hardening is a plus.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken.
