Job summary

Helmerich & Payne in Saudi Arabia seeks an Assistant Driller to support the Driller during drilling and tripping operations, ensuring timely, safe execution in line with company and project instructions.

The role requires at least 5 years in a supervisory drilling role, IWCF Well Control (or equivalent), Banksman/Slinger certification, and strong leadership across multinational crews, with solid MS Office skills and excellent communication.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Supervises and participates in order, cleanliness and housekeeping at rig site.
• Maintains the drilling tools and equipment.
• Supervises and helps the drilling crew to prepare equipment.
• Before rig move should order and supervise loading of rig equipment under orders of Tool Pusher and Driller.
• Supervises the correct storage of drilling equipment.
• Responsible for replacing the Derrickman when requested by the Driller.
• Inspects the derrick/mast and equipment, records inspections, reports and corrects defects after approval by Tool Pusher.
• Supervises good maintenance of all the sheaves in the derrick/mast.
• Checks that the drill string is in good condition.
• Supervises handling on the rig floor during picking up or laying down drilling equipment.
• May replace the Driller at the brake during pull-out, run-in casing or non-productive zones.
• Familiar with client rules to control a kick and apply them under Driller orders.
• Performs any job requested by the Driller or Tool Pusher within competence.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Driller is responsible for assisting the Driller by undertaking tasks as assigned in an efficient and timely manner. To stand in for the driller during drilling/tripping operations and manage the drilling crew while considering the current company and job instructions as well as KCA DEUTAG quality and safety standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervises and takes part in the order, cleanliness and housekeeping at rig site.
• Maintains the drilling tools and equipment.
• Supervises and helps the drilling crew to prepare equipment.
• Before rig move should order and supervise the loading of the rig equipment under the orders of the Tool Pusher and Driller.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a supervisory role within drilling operations.

• IWCF Well Control Certification or equivalent (Wellsharp).
• Banksman/Slinger certificate.
• Highly experienced and knowledgeable in their area of expertise.
• Ability to train, coach, mentor others, and facilitate learning amongst multinational crews.
