Overview:

The Accountant responsible forCapital Expenditure (CapEx) and the Fixed Assets Register will play a criticalrole in managing and tracking the company’s investments in capital assets. Thisposition requires oversight of the entire capital expenditure process, includingrecording, tracking, and reporting fixed assets, as well as ensuring compliancewith accounting standards. The role also involves maintaining the fixed assetregister, performing regular reconciliations, and assisting with budgeting andforecasting for capital expenditures.

KeyResponsibilities:

  • Capital Expenditure (CapEx) Management:
  • Oversee the recording and tracking of capitalexpenditures in accordance with company policies.
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of capitalbudgets, working closely with relevant departments to ensure that CapExplans align with company goals.
  • Review and verify capital expenditure requests toensure proper authorization, budget alignment, and appropriate coding.
  • Prepare detailed capital expenditure reports,highlighting variances from the budget and providing explanations fordeviations.
  • Fixed Assets Register Management:
  • Maintain and update the fixed assets register,ensuring that all acquisitions, disposals, and adjustments are properlyrecorded.
  • Ensure that capitalized assets are correctlyclassified, categorized, and tracked throughout their lifecycle,including acquisition, depreciation, and disposal.
  • Track and record depreciation for fixed assets,ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP,IFRS).
  • Perform regular reconciliations of the fixed assetsregister to the general ledger, identifying and resolving discrepanciesin a timely manner.
  • Calculate and record monthly depreciation andamortization for all fixed assets, in line with the company’s accountingpolicies and applicable tax regulations.
  • Assist in preparing reports for financial statementsrelated to asset depreciation and amortization.
  • Review the useful life and residual value of fixedassets, proposing adjustments as necessary.
  • Audit & Compliance Support:
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providingsupporting documentation for fixed assets and capital expenditures.
  • Ensure that fixed asset records are accurate, andprovide information to auditors during year-end audits.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and tax requirementsrelated to fixed assets, including proper capitalization and taxtreatment.
  • Fixed Asset Acquisition & Disposals:
  • Manage the process for the acquisition, transfer, anddisposal of fixed assets, ensuring that proper documentation ismaintained.
  • Monitor and record the disposal of fixed assets,including tracking gain or loss on asset disposals.
  • Ensure that disposed assets are removed from the fixedassets register in a timely manner.
  • Capitalization of Costs:
  • Ensure that all capitalized costs are properlyallocated to the correct asset categories (e.g., buildings, equipment,vehicles) and in accordance with accounting policies.
  • Review invoices and ensure that only appropriate costsrelated to the acquisition of fixed assets are capitalized.
  • Reporting & Analysis:
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports oncapital expenditures and fixed assets for management and seniorleadership.
  • Analyze asset-related data to provide insights intocapital spending trends, asset utilization, and investment performance.
  • Assist with forecasting future capital expenditurerequirements and the impact on the company’s financial position.
  • System & Process Improvements:
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of capitalexpenditure and fixed asset tracking processes.
  • Work with IT and finance teams to enhance systems forasset tracking, reporting, and compliance.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance accuracy andefficiency in managing capital expenditures and fixed assets.
Requirements
  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relatedfield.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA (CertifiedPublic Accountant) or ACCA (Association of Chartered CertifiedAccountants) are preferred but not required.
  • Experience:
  • 0–2 years of experience in accounting or finance, witha focus on capital expenditure, fixed assets, or similar areas.
  • Knowledge of capital budgeting, asset management, anddepreciation methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles relatedto capital expenditures, asset capitalization, and depreciation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financialsoftware tools for data analysis and reporting.
  • Attention to detail with excellent organizational andtime management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability tocollaborate effectively across departments.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and present findingsin a clear and actionable manner.
