Job Description

The Typhoon EW Mission Data (MD) Specialist is responsible for providing in-country support and advice to QEAF EW Officers in the production of Typhoon EW MD and development of the QEAF Typhoon EW MD Capability.

This specialist will provide day‑to‑day support to the QEAF in aspects of the MD lifecycle from establishing requirements to design, building and testing of EW MD and post‑flight analysis of MD.

This role requires an understanding and working knowledge of a number of toolsets such as the Integrated Generation System (IGS) and Desktop Validation Tool (DVT) to generate DASS (Defensive Aids Sub System) and Attack Computer MD.

This position is part of a team that will cover all aspects of the MD lifecycle, therefore providing expertise across the toolset range as a whole. The post will be established in Qatar after a period of UK‑based training.

Key aspects:

  • Advising on the details of developing Typhoon EW MD requirements and specifications.
  • Acting as an MD SME in the use of IGS, DVT, OMDET and PFA toolsets, providing direct support to QEAF EW Officers to meet their operational requirements.
  • Providing support and advice on the issues surrounding the development of EW MD for Typhoon and how these can be managed in an operational‑focused environment.
  • Supporting and providing advice on suitable approaches to EW MD design, build and testing; both SWIL and HWIL testing.
  • Supporting in‑country training/development activities to enable continuous development of QEAF EW Officer capabilities with the toolsets and processes provided to them.

Core activity:

  • Understanding QEAF Typhoon EW MD needs to support the development of MD requirements.
  • Support the QEAF EW Officers in developing design specifications to meet the established requirements.
  • Support the QEAF EW Officers in the building and testing of ESCM, DAC and ACMD.
  • Provide support to emitter ESM data extraction and colourisation activities.
  • Support QEAF‑led HWIL rig testing activities (UK Warton).
  • Support QEAF EW Officers in post‑flight analysis activities to identify and implement MD changes.
  • Provide support to the co‑ordination with QEAF Typhoon front‑line users to integrate key EW MD activities into operations.
  • Provide advice and support on the issues with Typhoon EW MD and how these can be managed.
  • Day‑to‑day ‘at elbow’ support to QEAF EWOs within the Typhoon EWC to meet QEAF EWC outputs, providing supervision where appropriate and highlighting any issues.
  • Provide support and mentorship to QEAF EW Officers on the use of EW MD toolsets and procedures to develop the QEAF capability.
  • Be a toolset SME, supporting the EW Advisor in answering detailed queries on EW MD toolsets and associated procedures.
  • Support the QEAF in deployed operations (trials and exercise) activities.

Key accountabilities:

  • Ensuring EW MD activities are supported appropriately and helping to meet agreed MD delivery targets, reporting/escalating any issues as appropriate.
  • Ensure that all EW MD design, build, test and analysis activities are undertaken in accordance with the appropriate procedures and that they are correctly documented and records maintained on relevant systems.
  • Developing and complying with procedures and standards in the production, testing and delivery of Typhoon MD; identifying and proposing changes as required to increase operational effectiveness in support of the QEAF EW MD Organisation aims.
  • Support the EW Advisor in providing advice and guidance for the introduction/upgrades of toolsets within the QEAFTyphoon EW Organisation.
  • Ensure the awareness of all applicable contractual requirements and incorporate any changes into activities as appropriate.
  • May be expected to deputise for the EW Advisor in appropriate areas during normal periods of absence.
Requirements

Qualified and highly experienced EW expert with experience within an operational EW environment that can be gained through either:
