Job description

Job Overview

The role reports to the Avionics Junior Supervisor and requires an experienced, skilled avionics technician and supervisor capable of undertaking detailed maintenance activities on aircraft or components. The incumbent must possess a strong knowledge of the Typhoon approved data set and the ability to supervise personnel carrying out maintenance instructions in line with the organisation’s regulatory framework. Key responsibilities include diagnosing faults in equipment and assemblies, following diagnostic procedures, working effectively within a team, and providing guidance to less experienced members.

Core Activities
  • Undertake detailed maintenance inspection activities on air electric bay components, ensuring work is completed in accordance with the work package and using relevant approved technical information.
  • Resolve faults and maintenance issues, including configuration management, and maintain a personal task authorisation for working on components in accordance with QAF requirements.
  • Complete diagnostic activities on electric components, which may include component removals, inspections, repairs, modifications, fault rectifications, replacements and functional system tests.
  • Maintain a personal Log Book to demonstrate currency and recency, and sign other personnel’s logbooks within your trade and skill boundaries.
  • Prepare progress reports against delivery targets, and undertake support tasks within the Air Electric Bay facility to maintain compliance with MOE and QAF procedures (e.g., oversight checks, control of tooling, test equipment).
  • Evaluate faults and raise ad‑hoc work cards for faults found during maintenance, ensuring all maintenance activities are documented and airworthiness records are maintained on relevant systems (IT or paper‑based).
Accountability & Performance
  • Lead by example to provide effective maintenance activities, meeting delivery targets and monitoring progress.
  • Report any impact on continuing airworthiness, identify issues and elevate them as appropriate.
  • Understand how team actions contribute to overall delivery performance and safety.
Procedure & Standards
  • Comply with the regulatory framework, associated procedures and standards, and any other company procedures and standards.
  • Identify and propose changes as required.
Safety Management
  • Apply human factors and error‑management philosophies to all maintenance activities.
  • Understand risks associated with maintenance activities and the means by which they are mitigated and managed.
Continuing Airworthiness & Quality
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with the Continuing Airworthiness Assurance Management System in conjunction with the MOE.
Statutory & Regulatory
  • Demonstrate understanding and application of the relevant continuing airworthiness regulatory framework.
  • Support the implementation of regulatory‑driven changes into maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with other requirements such as ITAR, EaPW and ISO.
Contractual Requirements
  • Comply with all applicable contractual requirements.
Qualifications
  • Completion of an Engineering Apprenticeship, ideally in Aeronautical Engineering or a military equivalent.
  • Academic qualification minimum of City & Guilds 2675 or 2661 in Aeronautical Engineering and Maintenance or equivalent.
  • Aircraft platform training (on‑aircraft requirement).
  • Broad, in‑depth product knowledge/competency within own technical/subject area.
  • Minimum two years at Supervisor level prior to current senior role, demonstrating breadth of experience, currency and recency via a Log Book.
  • Practical experience and expertise in aviation safety standards and safe operating practices.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Expositions and Functionally Mandated Procedures Management training (PDR training and experience).
  • Experience with Maintenix system (IMS) and Eurofighter support system (ESS).
  • IT literate.
