NES Fircroft is partnering with a Qatar facility engineering company to source a Contracts and Legal Engineer. The role leads all contractual and commercial aspects across full lifecycle, protecting legal and financial interests and guiding decisions.

You will review tender and contract documents, assess risks, negotiate terms, manage claims and disputes, and support governance and compliance with Qatar laws. This is an on-site position in Doha.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree with MBA or equivalent.
  • 8–10 years of experience in contract administration or commercial management.
  • Knowledge of FIDIC and international contracting practices.
  • Familiarity with Qatar laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

Job description

NES is working exclusively with a Qatar facility engineering company in sourcing a Contracts and Legal Engineer.

The incumbent will be required to lead and manage all contractual and commercial aspects of contracts and projects throughout the full lifecycle, ensuring the organization’s legal and financial interests are protected. The role is responsible for contract review, risk assessment, negotiation, claims management, and dispute resolution, while supporting strategic decision-making and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and contractual obligations.

Key Accountabilities
  • Review and evaluate tender and contract documents to ensure alignment with the company’s strategic, commercial, and risk management objectives.
  • Identify contractual risks and legal exposures at the pre-award stage and develop mitigation strategies to support informed decision-making and effective negotiations.
  • Contribute to the development, standardization, and continuous improvement of contract templates, clauses, and governance frameworks.
  • Advise management on the financial and commercial implications of contract terms, including risk allocation, liabilities, penalties, and variations impacting project profitability.
  • Collaborate with estimation, commercial, and project teams to ensure contractual commitments are practical, enforceable, and aligned with execution capabilities.
  • Monitor key contractual milestones and obligations to ensure compliance and minimize the risk of disputes or claims.
  • Support the development and implementation of dispute avoidance strategies and proactive risk management approaches.
Operational
  • Review, analyze, and interpret tender documents, contracts, and subcontracts to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards and applicable laws and regulations (including Qatar legislation).
  • Identify contractual ambiguities, risks, and liabilities, and prepare structured risk assessment reports for management review.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive contract management system, ensuring proper documentation, tracking, and version control of all contractual records and correspondence.
  • Advise and support project teams on contractual obligations, scope interpretation, variations, and claims procedures to ensure proper contract administration.
  • Review and assess variation orders, claims, and extension of time (EOT) submissions for contractual validity and substantiation.
  • Lead or support the preparation, evaluation, and resolution of claims and disputes, including coordination with legal advisors when required.
  • Proactively manage contract administration activities to ensure early identification and resolution of potential disputes. Support and participate in contract negotiations to secure favorable commercial and legal outcomes.
  • Review and issue company letters when and where necessary to ensure company rights are always reserved.
Knowledge And Skill
  • Strong knowledge of contract forms (e.g., FIDIC) and international contracting practices.
  • Sound understanding of legal principles related to contracts, claims, and dispute resolution.
  • Proven experience in contract negotiation, claims preparation/assessment, and dispute management.
  • Familiarity with Qatar laws, regulations, and industry practices is highly desirable.
Education and Technical Certifications
  • Degree in Engineering with MBA or master’s in engineering management, Construction Management or equivalent. Commercial and Legal Certifications
  • Minimum 8 to 10 years of experience in contract administration, contract review, or commercial management within Facilities Management, Engineering or Construction related
People Management
  • Provide expert guidance and mentorship to estimation, commercial, and project teams on contractual and commercial matters.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of contractual obligations and risk management practices across the organization.
  • Coordinate effectively with internal stakeholders and clients to ensure alignment on contractual matters and expectations.
