Job summary

Employment seeks a seasoned Commercial & Contracts Director to lead the commercial, contractual, and risk management functions for major EPC and Oil & Gas projects in Qatar. You will drive commercial strategy, governance, and profitability across bid reviews, tenders, and project execution.

You will oversee contract negotiations, administration, claims management, and dispute resolution, ensuring compliance with FIDIC and global standards while mentoring teams and optimizing cash flow.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Law or related discipline.
• Master's degree or MBA is an advantage.
• Professional certifications such as MRICS, MSc Construction Law, CCM, PMP or equivalent preferred.

Job Description Commercial & Contracts Director (EPC / Oil & Gas) Location: Qatar Business Unit: EPC / Oil & Gas
Job Purpose The Commercial & Contracts Director is responsible for leading the commercial, contractual, and risk management functions across major EPC and Oil & Gas projects. The role ensures commercial protection of the business, maximizes project profitability, manages contractual obligations, and provides strategic leadership for contract administration, claims management, cost control, and dispute resolution. Key Responsibilities Commercial Leadership Develop and implement commercial strategies aligned with business objectives. Lead commercial governance across all EPC and Oil & Gas projects. Ensure effective cost management, profitability, and financial performance. Provide commercial input during bid reviews, tenders, and project execution phases. Monitor commercial risks and implement mitigation measures. Contracts Management Oversee contract development, negotiation, administration, and compliance. Ensure proper interpretation and application of contract terms and conditions. Lead contract negotiations with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and partners. Manage contractual correspondence and maintain contractual records. Ensure compliance with FIDIC and other international contracting standards. Claims & Dispute Resolution Direct the preparation, assessment, and negotiation of claims, variations, and extensions of time. Lead contractual dispute resolution processes. Support project teams in preparing entitlement assessments and contractual notices. Coordinate with legal advisors on complex commercial and contractual matters. Tendering & Pre-Contract Activities Lead commercial evaluation of tenders and proposals. Review commercial and contractual risks during bid preparation. Support estimating and proposal teams during tender submissions. Participate in strategic bid and project award decisions. Financial & Risk Management Monitor project commercial performance and cash flow. Oversee forecasting, budgeting, and cost reporting activities. Ensure effective change management and variation control. Identify opportunities for cost optimization and margin enhancement. Team Leadership Lead and develop Commercial, Contracts, Claims, and Quantity Surveying teams. Establish KPIs and performance objectives. Mentor and develop high-performing commercial professionals. Promote best practices across all commercial functions. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Law, or a related discipline. Master's Degree or MBA is an advantage. Professional certifications such as MRICS, MSc Construction Law, CCM, PMP, or equivalent are preferred. Experience Minimum 20 years of experience in EPC, Oil & Gas, Industrial, Infrastructure, or Large Construction Projects. Minimum 10 years in a senior commercial leadership position. Proven experience managing large-scale EPC contracts valued at USD 500M+. Strong experience in FIDIC contracts, claims management, dispute resolution, and commercial negotiations. GCC/Middle East experience is highly preferred.
