Role overview

We are seeking a passionate and highly experienced Staff Product Designer to join our Design System team. You will drive the development and adoption of a best-in-class design system, partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent, accessible, and scalable experiences across Deel products. This role sits at the intersection of craft, operational efficiency, and strategic impact, empowering product teams through foundational design solutions that accelerate delivery and elevate quality.

Responsibilities
  • Design System Ownership: Lead the evolution, documentation, and adoption of Deel's design system. Maintain quality, consistency, and scalability of UI components and patterns across web and mobile. Ensure accessibility, localization, and responsive design best practices. Expose the system publicly to showcase Deel's design excellence.
  • Technical Component Strategy & Architecture: Define a vision for robust, reusable components to serve multiple use cases. Develop technical components such as customizable data grids, form builders, and navigational patterns scalable to support an 80+ person design team. Measure component metrics and address design debt.
  • Engineer Collaboration & Design Operations: Enable stronger engineering collaboration. Build tools that enhance designer and engineer experience, including tooling for consistency and automated workflows. Develop design tokens and utilities to streamline handoff.
  • Mentorship & Influence: Create foundational work reusable across product teams. Mentor designers in design system adoption, elevate capabilities, and foster knowledge sharing. Align system strategy with broader product goals with design leadership.
Qualifications
  • Experience & Expertise: 5-7 years in product design with at least 4 years focused on design systems at scale. Strong portfolio showing system-level thinking and component design for complex digital products. Knowledge of accessibility, usability, and responsive design for web and mobile.
  • Systems Thinking: Proven ability to develop scalable design systems to support large product surfaces. Experience balancing consistency with flexibility. Expertise in Figma, tokens, component libraries, and design documentation.
  • Technical Collaboration: Strong communicator who can influence cross-functional stakeholders. Experience collaborating with engineers on component implementation, QA, and internal tooling. Ability to lead cross-team design critiques and workshops.
  • Leadership & Autonomy: Proactive problem-solver who can lead projects with minimal oversight. Track record of improving design processes and enabling faster delivery across multiple workstreams.

Must Have

  • Experience with Figma Plugin API and internal tooling to support design workflows
  • Familiarity with the MUI (Material UI) component library and underlying architecture
  • Front-end experience (React, TypeScript) and understanding of design-token-driven development

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of motion design principles and experience with motion tools (React Spring, GSAP)
