Job summary

MOZAYDO in Lisbon is seeking a Senior SQL Specialist / Application DBA to administer, optimise and secure Microsoft SQL Server environments supporting banking applications.

You will implement HA/DR, monitor performance, tune queries, and collaborate with development teams to ensure data integrity and availability in a hybrid, Lisbon-based role. Fluency in Portuguese and English is required, with a hybrid work model in Lisbon supporting collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience administering SQL Server in complex environments.
• Strong T-SQL skills: queries, procedures, functions, indexes.
• Experience with performance monitoring using SQL Server tools.
• Knowledge of Always On, Clustering, Log Shipping, and Replication.
• Backup and recovery within Microsoft ecosystem.
• Experience with SSIS and SSAS.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Detail-oriented with good organization and communication.
• Portuguese native and good technical English.
• Hybrid work availability in Lisbon.

For this opportunity in the banking sector, we’re looking for a Senior SQL Specialist / Application DBA to administer, maintain, and optimise Microsoft SQL Server environments, ensuring the availability, security, integrity, and performance of the databases supporting business systems and applications.

Responsibilities

• Administer Microsoft SQL Server instances across production and development environments.
• Define and implement security, backup, recovery, and high availability policies.
• Monitor database performance and application response times, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
• Analyse slow queries, execution plans, and index usage, recommending and implementing improvements.
• Tune SQL code, stored procedures, and functions.
• Support development teams with database design and implementation.
• Plan and execute upgrades, migrations, and patches.
• Develop scripts to automate routine tasks, including backups, reindexing, and monitoring.
• Implement good practices for data governance and management.

Requirements

• More than 5 years of proven experience administering SQL Server in complex environments.
• Strong command of T-SQL, including queries, stored procedures, functions, and indexes.
• Advanced experience in performance monitoring and tuning using SQL Server Profiler, Extended Events, Performance Monitor, and Dynamic Management Views (DMVs).
• Strong knowledge of SQL Server high availability solutions, including Always On, Clustering, Log Shipping, and Replication.
• Practical experience with backup and recovery within the Microsoft ecosystem.
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).
• Experience analysing SQL code performance, indexes, and execution plans.
• Strong analytical and complex problem-solving skills.
• Organisation, rigour, and attention to detail.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
• Proactivity and autonomy in identifying improvements.
• Native-level Portuguese and a good command of technical English.
• Availability to work in a hybrid model in Lisbon.
