Job summary

Sovos is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Portugal to drive AI Platform adoption across engineering teams. You will work hands-on across Core and AI Platform capabilities, accelerating delivery and writing playbooks to standardize adoption.

The role requires strong JavaScript/React skills, plus familiarity with Java or .NET services, and a track record of mentoring engineers and documenting guidance. Clients obligations may require a background check.

Qualifications

• Experience across multiple codebases and domains is valued.
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as Copilot, Cursor or Claude.
• Strong ability to mentor, document and communicate with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead platform adoption by embedding with engineering teams and removing blockers.
• Contribute codebase work using AI-assisted development and platform patterns.
• Author and maintain guidance for platform adoption and best practices.
• Establish guidelines for AI coding assistant usage and integration workflows.

The Role

At Sovos, we're transforming how businesses navigate complex regulatory landscapes whilst modernising our technical infrastructure. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to play a hands-on, strategic role helping engineering teams across the organisation adopt our Core Platform and AI Platform capabilities. Positioned at the intersection of engineering, architecture, and AI technology, you'll accelerate delivery, write the playbooks that make adoption easier, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure code ships with quality and confidence.

More Specifically, You Will

• Lead platform adoption by embedding alongside engineering teams, understanding their codebases, identifying adoption blockers, and delivering practical solutions that make Core Platform and AI Platform capabilities feel native to their workflows.
• Contribute directly to team codebases using AI-assisted development techniques and Core Platform patterns, serving as a trusted guide for teams learning to use AI coding assistants, prompt engineering best practices, and platform APIs.
• Author and maintain Skills (structured, reusable guidance and automation) that encode best practices for platform adoption, capturing patterns from hands‑on engagements and translating them into guidance that helps teams adopt new technologies efficiently.
• Establish and evolve guidelines for AI coding assistant usage, including prompt engineering, code quality standards, and workflow integration strategies, continuously improving based on real‑world feedback.
• Partner with engineering teams and product stakeholders to co-author test plans for platform‑integrated features, supporting end‑to‑end deployment cycles from development through to production.
• Identify quality and security considerations for AI-generated and platform‑integrated code whilst demonstrating how to incrementally improve architecture and deliver measurable business value.

What You Bring to Sovos

• You can work effectively across multiple codebases and technical domains — whether you've done this across multiple roles or deep in one role, what matters is that you can navigate unfamiliar systems and contribute quickly.
• You have experience with, or genuine enthusiasm for, AI coding assistants in professional contexts such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or similar tools.
• You bring strong technical depth in JavaScript and React, with familiarity in Java and/or .NET service‑oriented systems as a plus.
• You have a track record of enabling other engineers through mentorship, documentation, shared tooling, or hands‑on pairing, and can communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• You demonstrate strong problem‑solving instincts, balancing immediate team needs with longer‑term platform and architectural improvements, and can quickly understand unfamiliar codebases, technologies, and technical domains.
• You possess excellent written communication skills with the ability to author documentation and guidance that other engineers can rely on, and you take a collaborative approach to helping teams adopt new technologies and ways of working.
• Due to client contractual obligations, the successful candidate will be asked to clear a background check upon hire.
