Job summary

McKinsey seeks a senior UX leader to own strategy and execution across a portfolio of digital products. You will define design directions, establish scalable design systems, and raise design maturity across teams.

Your Impact

You will take ownership of UX strategy and execution across a suite of digital products, helping shape intuitive and consistent user experiences that drive business impact.

You will collaborate closely with product managers and cross-functional teams to define design direction, establish scalable design systems, and elevate product design practices across the portfolio. You will lead efforts to improve design consistency, mentor other designers, and advocate for user-centered approaches throughout the product lifecycle. You will also contribute to the evolution of design standards and help embed design thinking across teams.

Your work will help ensure that our digital transformation initiatives deliver meaningful, high-quality experiences that meet user needs and align with strategic goals-making the work of our colleagues faster, easier, and more effective. You will also play a key role in mentoring and coaching junior designers, fostering a culture of growth, collaboration, and design excellence across the team.

You will be based in Lisbon, Poznan or Berlin as part of our Visual Graphics and Media (VG&M) function, contributing to a global digital transformation program that is redefining how we deliver a technology-enabled service. Our VG&M function is home to the firm’s wide range of visually-led capabilities and services. Our teams play an important role in enabling our consultants to communicate our findings and recommendations, to inspire our clients to move forward, and to push the boundaries of creativity to innovate the future of visual communication.

Your Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelors or masters in interaction design, cognitive science, HCI or equivalent experience
• 7+ years of experience designing digital products and services; familiarity with an enterprise setting and agile operating models is a plus
• Experience partnering with engineers on AI-assisted development workflows, including producing design specifications, component references, and constraints that help guide LLM-based coding agents toward accurate, on-brand implementation
• Experience with collaborating and actively participating with cross-functional teams to deliver successful outcomes within tight deadlines
• Strong interaction and visual design skills, including use of a diverse set of tools, e.g. Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, etc.
• Proficiency with modern design, prototyping, research, and collaboration tools such as Figma, Claude Code, Cursor, Miro, Jira, and related platforms
• Portfolio of work demonstrating experience delivering personas, user journeys, concepts, storyboards, user flows, wireframes, prototypes and other artifacts enabling design and delivery of digital products and services that are currently live or have been taken to market
• Ability to design and conductuser testing and concept validation- i.e. identify potential solution options for a stated user need anddesign experiments that help elicit themost viable solutionfor users
• Ability to diagnose challenges and opportunities through evidence-based investigation and mixed methods research, both qualitative and quantitative
• Proven ability to coach, train, and lead others-helping them develop new skills, adopt human-centered design approaches, and deliver high-quality work that shapes strategic direction across an integrated portfolio
• Familiarity with Agile and Lean ways of working, and enough fluency in AI/ML concepts and capabilities to design sound, trustworthy AI-driven experiences
• Professional level language fluency in English (verbal and written) with exceptional communication skills to articulate design strategy, mentor teammates, and collaborate effectively across global cross-functional teams
