Job summary

Imaginary Cloud, a remote-first company, seeks a seasoned Java backend developer to build scalable services for global clients. You will work with Spring, JVM internals, and modern architectures while leveraging AI tools to accelerate development.

You will collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, contribute to design decisions, and uphold high code quality within a human-centric culture. Remote-friendly with flexible hours, based in Portugal.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development experience with Java in a Spring ecosystem.
• Strong knowledge of Spring Boot, REST/gRPC, reactive patterns, and JVM internals.
• Proficiency with Cursor IDE and GitHub Copilot for code acceleration.
• C++ knowledge is a plus.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and Terraform for IaC.
• Daily use of Docker/Kubernetes and GitLab CI pipelines.
• Experience with distributed systems and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger).
• Commitment to writing well-designed, testable, efficient code using best practices.
• Fluency in English, spoken and written.
• Willingness to live/work in Portugal.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services in Java within Spring framework.
• Solve complex problems, optimize performance, and refactor for reliability.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to system design decisions.
• Maintain high code quality, tests, and documentation.
• Participate in monitoring, observability, and incident response.
