Job summary

Aubay Portugal is seeking a seasoned Java developer to lead the technical implementation of full-stack applications, providing technical leadership to the delivery team and driving agile planning and delivery.

You will design and maintain backend services with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs and microservices, and promote modern engineering practices including AI-assisted development; the role is hybrid in Lisbon with 1 day in the office.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional Java development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs and microservices architecture.
• Full-stack development experience with Angular or React.
• Experience with technical leadership, code reviews, mentoring or guiding development teams.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker or other containerisation technologies, Kubernetes and cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or Google Cloud.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot or Microsoft Copilot.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical implementation, development, and continuous improvement of critical Java-based full-stack software applications.
• Provide technical leadership to the delivery team, contributing to agile planning, estimation, and delivery activities.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native technologies.
• Drive the adoption of modern software engineering practices, including AI-assisted software development and developer productivity tools.
• Lead code reviews, define automated testing strategies, and coach developers in modern engineering practices.
