Job summary

Komodo Consulting is seeking a Senior Java Backend Developer to join a technology project in Portugal. You will design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs using Java, while implementing infrastructure-as-code with Terraform and building event-driven integrations with Kafka.

You'll ensure test automation, contribute to CI/CD pipelines, and deploy services in Kubernetes. Strong experience in Java backend, OOP, and cloud/DevOps practices is required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development experience with a strong focus on Java backend development.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and common design patterns.
• Experience with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and automation.
• Hands-on experience with unit testing, integration testing, and TDD/shift-left practices.
• Proficiency with Git and CI/CD concepts and workflows.
• Knowledge of Kafka and event-driven architectures.
• Experience working with Kubernetes in development and/or production environments.
• Experience with GraphQL Federation.
• Knowledge of Azure Cloud.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs using Java, applying object-oriented principles and design patterns consistently.
• Implement infrastructure-as-code components using Terraform to support scalable and repeatable environments.
• Build and evolve event-driven integrations using Kafka.
• Develop and maintain automated tests (unit and integration), applying TDD and shift-left testing practices.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and workflows using Git-based version control and automation.
• Deploy and operate services in Kubernetes environments, supporting reliability and performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot complex issues and deliver high-quality solutions.
