Hovione in Portugal seeks a Senior Reliability Engineer to lead the site reliability strategy for critical facilities, equipment and engineering systems, ensuring asset performance and lifecycle management in a highly regulated pharma environment.

You will lead RCA, develop maintenance strategies and coach a team of engineers while collaborating across Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Quality and EHS to meet GMP and safety standards. Fluent English required.

Responsabilidades

• Lead site reliability strategy for critical facilities, equipment and engineering systems to improve asset availability and lifecycle performance.
• Identify and manage asset reliability risks using performance data and failure history.
• Lead RCA and failure investigations with corrective actions.
• Develop preventive, predictive and risk-based maintenance strategies for critical assets.
• Apply reliability methods (RCM, FMEA/FMECA, criticality, condition monitoring).
• Provide reliability input into design, acquisition, commissioning, upgrades and lifecycle management.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean to reduce recurring failures and improve performance.
• Coach and develop a team of technical engineers with training plans and objectives.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Quality and EHS on asset decisions.
• Ensure activities meet GMP, regulatory and safety requirements.

You will be responsible to:

To lead the reliability and engineering strategy for critical facilities, equipment and infrastructure within a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment. This is an opportunity for a reliability professional who wants to operate beyond individual equipment or maintenance programmes and have a site‑wide impact on asset performance, reliability and lifecycle strategy.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Lead the site reliability strategy for critical facilities, equipment and engineering systems, improving asset availability, reliability and lifecycle performance.
• Identify and manage asset reliability risks, using equipment performance, failure history, maintenance and operational data.
• Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and failure investigations, ensuring lessons learned are translated into sustainable corrective actions.
• Develop and optimise preventive, predictive and risk‑based maintenance strategies for critical assets.
• Apply reliability methodologies including RCM, FMEA/FMECA, criticality assessment and condition monitoring to improve asset performance.
• Provide reliability engineering input into the design, acquisition, commissioning, upgrade and lifecycle management of assets.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives, using Lean and reliability engineering principles to reduce recurring failures and improve operational performance.
• Lead, coach and develop a team of technical engineers, establishing technical competencies, training plans and performance objectives.
• Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Quality and EHS, providing technical leadership and influencing asset and maintenance decisions.
• Ensure engineering and reliability activities meet GMP, regulatory, safety and Health Authority requirements, while maintaining high standards of technical governance.

We are looking to recruit a Candidate:

• Degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical, Electrical & Electronic or Instrumentation, or related field.
• Extensive experience in maintenance context of industrial areas within a GMP envoirnment
• Possess extensive knowledge of industrial / lab safety and environment and of budget control principles and practices and is able to effectively share them with others
• Good communication skills (verbal and written)
• Fluency in English is a requirement
• Must have the Knowledge, Experience and Skills to conduct their tasks in accordance with the rules and procedures set down.
