About the role

As a DevOps Engineer at Ascent, you will be at the heart of the evolution of DevOps culture on a range of challenging and interesting customer projects. You’ll join our team of DevOps experts, and work typically as part of a cross-functional team on customer projects, supporting their journey through digital transformation, or helping them do existing things in a much better way.

Skills and qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills suitable for Senior level, cloud engineering and architecture stakeholder meetings.
  • Ability to facilitate the process of gathering requirements and presenting and explaining alternative cloud infrastructure architecture and configuration options.
  • Keen focus on customer service and an understanding of the relationship between technology solutions and business value.
  • Understanding of software and data engineering technologies, practices, and processes, in particular the common infrastructure and architectural patterns which underpin these types of environments.
  • 5+ years of experience working in either a development or operational role with at least 2 years recent experience of working in a DevOps capacity. Exposure to developing, deploying, and managing application platforms on Microsoft Azure and Kubernetes, and working within Agile teams.
  • 3+ years of deep working knowledge of Microsoft Azure PaaS technologies including Azure App Services, SQL Database, Storage Accounts, and integration services such as Service Bus. Good understanding of Azure networking including Azure private link and hybrid connectivity services.
  • 3+ years of experience and deep working knowledge of infrastructure as code technologies including Terraform and Azure Bicep or Pulumi. Experience with developing, deploying, and managing large-scale platforms using a code-first approach.
  • 3+ years of experience of and deep working knowledge of version control and automation platforms such as Azure DevOps and/or GitHub, including development of automation pipelines for infrastructure and applications.
  • 3+ years of experience with scripting languages including Bash and PowerShell, particularly in conjunction with the Azure CLI, and Azure PowerShell.
  • 2+ years of experience with Kubernetes and Cloud Native projects, particularly Azure Kubernetes Service or Azure Container Apps.
