Tiko is seeking a Scala Backend Engineer to join our Agile tech team. You will build and maintain the software that powers our platform, applying solid software engineering practices, security, and scalability.

You will collaborate across teams, document your work, and participate in rituals. The role supports remote or hybrid work, with a focus on delivering high-quality backend services using the Typelevel stack and AWS in a growing nonprofit environment.

Qualificações

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience developing Scala-based backend systems.
• Proven expertise in functional programming principles, with hands-on experience utilizing the Typelevel stack (Cats and Cats Effect).
• Experience with microservices and AWS is highly preferred.
• You strive for quality and scalability and communicate effectively in English.
• Based in Portugal / South Africa / Kenya or with eligibility to work remotely from these regions.

• Maintain and develop new features on the software platform, applying solid software engineering practices.
• Ensure security and privacy with regard to information security and personal data.
• Actively participate in meetings, coordinate with teammates, and keep skills up to date.
• Document work clearly for future maintenance and use by others.
