Zusammenfassung

REQUIMTE - Rede de Quimica e Tecnologia in Portugal seeks a First Stage Researcher (R1) for a 6.5‑month grant starting November 2026. The project focuses on developing and evaluating molecules with antimicrobial activity against phytopathogenic species, with in vitro insecticidal activity assessment.

The work takes place at the Laboratory of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto, under Prof. David Pereira.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences or Pharmaceutical Sciences or related field.
• Enrollment in a master's program in the same fields or in a non-degree course in articulation with an R&D unit.
• Experience in chemistry and biology of natural products and their semi-synthetic derivatives.

Scientific Area: Pharmaceutical Sciences

Admission requirements:Bachelor's degree (Licenciatura) in Health Sciences, Basic Studies in Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related scientific field. Enrolment in a master's programme in the same fields, or in a non‑degree course taught by a higher education institution in articulation with an R&D unit. Experience in the chemistry and biology of natural products and their semi‑synthetic derivatives.

In case the Bachelor’s degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decreto‑Lei n.º 66/2018, de 16 de Agosto, and all formalities established therein must be complied with at the signature of work contract.

Work plan: Development and evaluation of molecules with antimicrobial activity against phytopathogenic species, and evaluation of insecticidal activity in vitro.

Workplace: The work will be carried out at the Laboratory of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto, under the scientific supervision of Prof. David Pereira.

Duration of the grant(s): The grant will last 6.5 months with an expected start date of November 2026.

Monthly maintenance stipend:

Monthly stipend is €1090,98 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal ( https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM-202… ). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.

Selection methods:

The following selection methods will be used:

Proven experience in the chemistry and biological evaluation of natural products (35%)

Experience in methods for evaluating antimicrobial activity (35%)

Specific training in natural products (30%)

(Interview)

Where there are candidates, whose score differs by 10% or less from the score obtained by the top‑ranked candidate, the panel will interview the top‑ranked candidate and the candidates in that situation. In that case, the interview will have a weight of 30%.

The panel will not award the grant to candidates with a score below 50%.

Publication/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be published by posting on the Institution's premises, and all candidates will be notified by email.
