Job summary

Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Systems Neuroscience to join the DisSeCT program. The project studies self-paced and cued movement initiation with in vivo experiments, neural recordings, and optogenetics in mice, with emphasis on creativity and independent ideas.

The role involves hands-on experiments, data analysis in Python/MATLAB, and collaboration within an international team of 400+.

Qualifications

• PhD in Systems Neuroscience or a related scientific area by the closing date.
• Hands-on experience with in vivo experimental research in rodents.
• Programming experience in Python or MATLAB applied to data analysis.
• Peer-reviewed publication record with at least one first-author article.
• Ability to work independently and drive a project; collaborative experience.
• FELASA accreditation or equivalent for animal experimentation.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Design experiments and contribute to the intellectual direction of the project.
• Carry out in vivo experiments in behaving mice with neural recordings and optogenetics.
• Perform stereotaxic surgery, viral injections and chronic implants; manage mouse cohorts.
• Extend methods to a mouse model of Parkinson's disease.
• Write custom analysis code for neural and behavioural data (spike sorting, photometry, tracking, modelling).
• Present results at international meetings and lead manuscript writing.
• Contribute to supervision and day-to-day lab life.
