- Shape the hardware foundations of Ardia and influence how our robot platforms are designed, assembled, and scaled
- Join at an early stage where your engineering decisions will set standards for future products and production systems
- Work on real robotic platforms in a company that combines AI, robotics, and manufacturing under one roof
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team building both the physical systems and the intelligence behind autonomous robotics
- Be part of a Madeira-based innovation hub with the opportunity to help bring cutting-edge robotics from prototype to large-scale deployment
ABOUT DATAMENTORS
Datamentors is a robotics start-up building an agnostic orchestration platform and a family of proprietary robots — quadruped, mobile upper-body and humanoid — assembled at our own factory in Caniçal, Madeira. We also develop custom Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models that give our robots natural-language reasoning and autonomy, deployable across sectors from hospitality and healthcare to defence and logistics. With prototypes running and a clear path to 600 units per year, the engineers joining now will shape both the hardware and the intelligence behind Ardia for years to come.
ROLE OVERVIEW
Own the internal engineering of every robot we build — the bones, joints, actuators, PCBs and wiring that make the quadruped, mobile and humanoid lines move and think. You will be our bridge between R&D ambition and factory reality: translating prototypes into repeatable assemblies, driving DFM and FMEA at every gate, and keeping both engineers and production line honest. We are open to a single Mechatronic Engineer who covers the full stack, or two specialists — Mechanical and Electronics — running in parallel.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own the mechanical assemblies, drivetrains and electronics integration end to end across all three robot lines — quadruped, mobile upper-body, and humanoid
- Drive Design For Manufacturability (DFM) at every design gate; run Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and track action closure through to production
- Partner with the Product Designer on body geometry, joint design, mount configurations and tolerancing — bridging aesthetic intent with buildable, serviceable hardware
- Lead PCB layout, wiring harness routing and sensor integration with the assembly line in mind — design for the technician, not the breadboard
- Sit between R&D and Manufacturing — translate prototypes into repeatable assemblies, surface production blockers early and keep both teams aligned on what ships
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years in mechatronic or electromechanical engineering, ideally on robots, drones or comparable products
- Strong CAD proficiency — SolidWorks, Onshape or similar — and hands-on PCB design tooling (KiCad, Altium or equivalent)
- Demonstrated experience taking a prototype through to a repeatable, documented assembly process
- Comfortable across motors, sensors, batteries and onboard compute — you understand how the electrical and mechanical sides talk to each other
- Willing and enthusiastic to be floor-present in Caniçal; this is a hands-on, factory-embedded role
Nice to have
- Robotics, drones or automotive background
- Experience with legged or mobile manipulation platforms
WHY DATAMENTORS
- Competitive salary benchmarked to mainland Portugal plus a Madeira relocation premium
- Founding engineering role for the Ardia humanoid programme — your decisions become the standard
- Equity / participation in Datamentors growth; CINM free-zone benefits
- Access to a real robot fleet and an in-house assembly line; health insurance, relocation and housing assistance; structured progression as the plant scales to 600 units per year
