Smartex in Porto, Portugal, seeks two Master’s Thesis students in Industrial Engineering and Management to join its Engineering team as embedded Engineering Project Managers, supporting Hardware or Software and aligning technical execution with business priorities.

You will gain hands-on experience managing complex projects in a fast-growing deep-tech company, participate in technical meetings, and help build Industry 4.0 solutions while enjoying hybrid work and meal allowances.

Qualificações

• Currently enrolled in a Master’s in Industrial Engineering and Management.

Responsabilidades

• Support day-to-day coordination of Hardware or Software Engineering teams as an embedded Engineering Project Manager.
• Assist in planning, tracking, and prioritising engineering activities to meet milestones.
• Participate in technical meetings, capture actions, monitor progress, and escalate blockers as needed.
• Help improve communication and alignment between engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Develop and implement project management processes, documentation, dashboards, and reporting tools.
• Define and monitor project performance metrics to evaluate delivery efficiency.
• Contribute to the design and validation of a tailored Engineering Project Management framework.

What we're lookingfor

We are looking for two highly motivated Master’s Thesis students in Industrial Engineering and Management to join Smartex’s Engineering team. As embedded Engineering Project Managers, you will support either our Hardware or Software team, helping coordinate product development, align technical execution with business priorities, and improve cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced engineering environment. Working closely with technical leads and multidisciplinary teams, you will gain hands-on experience in managing complex engineering projects while contributing to the development of cutting-edge Industry 4.0 solutions. This position is ideal for someone passionate about project management, engineering, and working in a fast-growing deep-tech company.

Responsibilities

• Support the day-to‑to‑coordination of either the Hardware or Software Engineering team as an embedded Engineering Project Manager.
• Assist in planning, tracking, and prioritising engineering activities, ensuring project milestones and deliverables are met.
• Participate in technical meetings, capture action items, monitor progress, and proactively escalate blockers.
• Help improve communication and alignment between engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Develop and implement project management processes, documentation, dashboards, and reporting tools.
• Define and monitor project performance metrics to evaluate delivery efficiency and team coordination.
• Contribute to the design and validation of an Engineering Project Management framework tailored to a fast-growing deep‑tech environment.

• Currently enrolled in a Master's in Industrial Engineering and Management or a related engineering field.
• Strong organisational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Interest in project management, product development, and engineering operations.
• Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and work effectively with cross‑functional teams.
• Proactive mindset with strong attention to detail and ownership.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, deep‑tech environment.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with technical and business stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
