Avaloq is Pictet Bank's core banking platform, extensively customized with in-house developments to meet the unique needs of our business. At Pictet, Avaloq developers take on the dual role of business analysts and developers, working on innovative solutions that drive our banking operations. Our team includes over 50 skilled Avaloq Technical Business Analysts, working collaboratively in squads distributed between Geneva and Lisbon. In this position, you will be trained on the Avaloq platform, both on functional (understanding banking operations and how they are represented in Avaloq) and technical aspects (how Avaloq works and how to develop in it). YOUR ROLE

As an Avaloq Technical Business Analyst, you will be part of a specialized squad focused on a specific core banking domain. You will work closely with colleagues in both Lisbon and Geneva, contributing to the devel-opment and enhancement of our core banking solutions. Over time, as you build business context alongside your technical skills, you will naturally transition from a software-engineer focus into a BA Tech role — combin-ing deep platform knowledge with business analysis

During the analysis phase

• Collaborate with business teams to understand and analyse their requirements.
• Design and propose effective IT solutions in partnership with development squads and system archi-tects.
• Draft and communicate clear and concise functional specifications.

During the development phase

Implement solutions on the Avaloq platform using Avaloq Script (Avaloq's own scripting language).

Develop automated tests using frameworks such as Gherkin/Cucumber, where applicable.

Conduct unit and acceptance tests (FAT), utilizing both manual and automated testing methods.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES

• Learning capacity — genuinely motivated to learn Avaloq, its business domain, and grow into a BA Tech role over time.
• Analytical spirit — able to break down business requirements and troubleshoot technical issues.
• Communication/Diplomacy — clear written and verbal communication with business teams and squads across Geneva and Lisbon.
• Attention to detail — precise, rigorous work across both coding and testing (unit, integration, and UAT) phases.
• Dealing with ambiguity — comfortable working with a heavily customized, imperfectly documented legacy platform and evolving requirements.

Your Profile

We are looking for motivated individuals with a learning mentality and a desire to grow in the field of banking and IT.

Technical skills

• Ability to program in, at least, one language — professional experience is not required, but you should already know how to code (coursework, personal projects, or a bootcamp, all count). PL/SQL is a plus.
• Experience in implementing unit and integration tests, either manually or through automation.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving code issues.
• Experience with Eclipse or a similar integrated development environment (IDE).
• Basic understanding of SQL.
• Familiarity with Gherkin/Cucumber is a plus but not mandatory.

Soft Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
• A proactive and adaptable mindset, with a willingness to learn and grow.

Professional Skills

• Knowledge of banking systems or financial services is advantageous but not essential.
