Job summary

Pictet Technologies Portugal in Lisbon is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong Python skills to own backend services and APIs end-to-end, from design to deployment in the cloud.

You will join the User Productivity squad, collaborate with engineers, architects and business stakeholders, contribute to Generative AI initiatives, and mentor teammates while delivering scalable, secure software.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong engineering practices.
• Strong proficiency in Python, with experience designing and developing scalable backend API solutions.
• Hands-on experience developing and deploying solutions on AWS (ECS, Lambda, S3, SQS, RDS, IAM, CloudWatch).
• Solid DevOps mindset and experience, applied as a software engineer: CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, Docker and IaC (Terraform or CloudFormation).
• Fluent in English (Portuguese or French is a plus).

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong Python skills, hands‑on experience with AWS and a solid DevOps mindset. You will take ownership of backend services and APIs end to end, from design and development to deploying and running them in the cloud, and may work on different projects and scopes over time as the squad's priorities evolve. You will join the Scrum team of our User Productivity squad, collaborating with fellow engineers, architects and business stakeholders to deliver and maintain high‑quality software in line with sprint objectives.

In this context, your role will include:

Backend Development

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services and APIs in Python.
• Maintain and improve internal libraries and tools shared across the squad.
• Ensure robust, secure and well‑tested code following established architecture and best practices.

Cloud & Delivery (a DevOps mindset)

• Build and deploy applications on AWS, utilizing services such as ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SQS, RDS, IAM and CloudWatch.
• Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code, ensuring reliable and repeatable cloud environments.
• Implement and enhance CI/CD pipelines, monitoring and alerting.
• Drive continuous improvement of scalability, security and performance.

Generative AI (where relevant)

• Contribute to solutions that leverage Large Language Models, agents and related tooling when the project calls for it.
• Stay up to date with emerging AI technologies and share what you learn with the team.

Collaboration & Support

• Work closely with engineering, product and operations teams to gather requirements, design solutions and deliver features.
• Participate in troubleshooting, monitoring and user support activities as part of the product team.
• Mentor team members and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Requirements

Our ideal candidates should have:

Mandatory skills

• University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Senior profile: proven professional experience in software engineering (5+ years), with a strong grasp of engineering best practices.
• Strong proficiency in Python, with proven experience designing and developing scalable backend API solutions.
• Hands‑on experience developing and deploying solutions on AWS (e.g. ECS, Lambda, S3, SQS, RDS, IAM, CloudWatch).
• Solid DevOps mindset and experience, applied as a software engineer: CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, Docker and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation).
• Fluent in English.

Valued assets

• Experience with Large Language Models and Generative AI solutions (LLM integration, agents, tool calling, RAG or similar) and the main frameworks and libraries.
• AWS certification (e.g. Solutions Architect or Developer).
• Experience with Microsoft Azure.
• Java and/or Spring Boot experience.
• Demonstrated solid knowledge of relational databases (SQL, PostgreSQL or Oracle) and data modeling.
• Knowledge of containers and orchestration (Kubernetes) and of monitoring and alerting solutions.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira.
• Experience in banking or other regulated environments.
