Job summary

JobCenter in Funchal is seeking a dedicated Library Assistant to support daily operations and deliver exceptional service to patrons. The role involves assisting with circulation, helping patrons locate materials, cataloging tasks, and contributing to programming and community outreach.

You will help maintain tidy shelves and accurate records in the library system, and participate in interlibrary loan processing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred; will consider candidates without experience.
• Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
• Strong customer service skills with professional interaction with diverse groups.
• Knowledge of library systems is a plus.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Assist with circulation duties including checking books in and out, processing holds, and shelving materials.
• Provide assistance to patrons by answering questions, locating materials, and issuing library cards.
• Assist with maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the library shelves and work areas.
• Help with cataloging new materials and updating records in the library system.
• Aid in collection development by recommending new materials for purchase.
• Plan and execute engaging programs and events for all ages to promote literacy and community engagement.
• Assist with managing interlibrary loan requests from other libraries.
• Conduct basic reference interviews to determine patron needs and provide appropriate resources or referrals.
