Datamentors in Madeira is seeking a founding hardware engineer to own the electrical and electronic architecture of our robots, from component specification to sensor and power integration. You will set the standard the team builds against, bridging hardware and software decisions in a fast-paced robotics startup.

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field.
• Proven experience designing and implementing complex electrical/electronic architectures end-to-end.
• Experience with embedded systems, industrial communication protocols, and sensor/actuator integration.

Responsabilidades

• Define and own the complete electrical and electronic architecture across Datamentors' robot platforms — quadruped, mobile and humanoid.
• Specify components for each build and select technologies meeting performance, cost and manufacturability targets.
• Ensure seamless integration between sensors, actuators, power systems, safety, and hardware/software boundary.
• Design, validate and own power distribution, battery management and energy systems for battery-powered mobile robots.
• Bring embedded systems and hardware integration in-house to reduce dependency on external suppliers.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Own the electrical and electronic architecture of every robot we build — from component specification through to the integration of sensors, actuators, power systems, safety and the hardware/software boundary. Today no one on the team holds this expertise, and closing that gap is essential to moving faster and building on solid ground rather than depending on external suppliers for our core technical decisions. This is a foundational hire: you will set the electrical and electronic standard the rest of Ardia is built against.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Define and own the complete electrical and electronic architecture across Datamentors' robot platforms — quadruped, mobile and humanoid
• Specify the components required for each build and select technologies that meet performance, cost and manufacturability targets
• Ensure seamless integration between sensors, actuators, power and energy systems, safety systems, and the hardware/software boundary
• Design, validate and own power distribution, battery management and energy systems for battery-powered mobile robots
• Bring embedded systems, industrial communication protocols and sensor/actuator integration in-house, reducing our dependence on external suppliers for core technical decisions

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field
• Proven experience developing complex electrical and electronic systems, with the demonstrated ability to define a complete electrical/electronic architecture end to end
• Strong knowledge of embedded systems, industrial communication protocols, and sensor/actuator integration
• Hands‑on experience with power systems, batteries and energy distribution, plus electronic safety, wiring, connectors and hardware integration
• Practical, hands‑on experience integrating, testing and troubleshooting prototypes

Nice to have

• Experience in robotics (valued, but not required)
• Background in industrial automation, autonomous systems, heavy machinery, drones, automotive or aerospace
