The University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) opens a call for one (1) ResearchGrant (students enrolled in an integrated master's, master's, doctoral or non-degree course, Article 6, FCT Regulation no. 950/2019), in the frame of the R&D project of I&D Vine & Wine PT, BI/UTAD/39/2025 , funded by the project Vine&Wine Portugal - Driving Sustainable Growth Through Smart Innovation, (n.º C644866286-00000011), financed of the programme NextGeneration UE, through Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) of Portugal, within the scope of the Mobilizing Agendas for Business Innovation, in the following requirements:

Admission requirements:

• Master's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics, Agricultural Engineering, Oenology and Viticulture or related areas*;
• Experience in identifying beneficial arthropods;
• Domain of the English language
• Submission of mandatory documentation (curriculum vitae, letter of motivation, declaration of honour regarding the submission of proof of enrolment up to the time of contracting - see point 2 of article 10 of FCT Research Grant Regulation no. 950/2019 - and personal identification details*).

Work plan:

The candidate will carry out R&D activities within the scope of the Vine&Wine Portugal - Driving Sustainable Growth through Smart Innovationproject, namely:

1) Monitoring of two field trials with new fungicide (anti-downy mildew) and insecticide (against the European grapevine moth, Lobesia botrana ) formulations;

2) Evaluation of the physiological and biochemical response of the grapevine to the application of the anti- downy mildew fungicide;

3) Study of the expression of grapevine defense genes in elicitor formulations;

4) Evaluation of the impact of insecticide treatment on beneficial arthropods (phytoseiid mites);

Workplace:

The work will be developed at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, under the scientific guidance of Professors Fátima Gonçalves, Cristina Carlos, Berta Gonçalves and Isaura Castro.

Duration of scholarship:

The fellowship will last for 5 months, and it´s expected to start on August 2025. The scholarship contract may be renewed, under the terms of the FCT Research Grant Regulation (no. 950/20219).

Note:

If the grant is awarded to students enrolled in a course that does not confer an academic degree, the contract cannot exceed a total duration of 12 months.

Monthly maintenance allowance amount:

The scholarship amount corresponds to €1309,64 according to the table of scholarships awarded directly by the FCT, I.P. in the country (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ). The period of payment of the scholarship is monthly and through bank deposit, check or another equivalent method.

Selection Methods:

The selection methods to be used will be as follows:

A. Experience in arthropod identification: 20%

B. Academic curriculum assessment: 60%

C. Interview (to all candidates): 20%

In the event that the selected scholarship holder withdraws, the final ranking list of candidates in this competition may be used to replace them. If none of the candidates demonstrates that they have the profile indicated to carry out the work plan, the jury reserves the right not to award the scholarship to the competition.

If the decision to be taken is unfavourable to the granting of the requested scholarship, the candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the aforementioned disclosure, to express their opinion, if desired, in a prior hearing, under the terms provided for in the Code of Administrative Procedure.
