Planet is seeking a Java Backend Engineer to join our e-commerce payments platform, developing, improving and operating the systems behind payment flows.

You will integrate payment methods, build APIs, write tests, review code and contribute to scalable, robust backend components in a team-based environment.

We embrace a hybrid work model with three days in the Porto office, and a strong focus on quality, reliability and delivery in a global payments business.

Qualificações

• 3+ years of professional Java experience.
• Experience with a modern framework such as Spring.
• Experience with Git, Maven, and relational databases.
• Ability to design reusable, robust, and maintainable software components.
• Strong focus on software quality and engineering best practices.
• Experience writing unit and integration tests.
• Interest in payment systems and backend applications.
• Experience with Linux, CI/CD pipelines, containers, Kubernetes or cloud platforms is a plus.

Role overview

As a Java Backend Engineer, you will join the team responsible for our e-commerce payment platform. Our platform enables merchants to process online payments and offer their customers a wide range of payment methods. You will help develop, improve, and operate the systems behind these payment flows, from integrations with payment providers to our payment page and server-to-server APIs. This is a hands-on development role where you will work on both new functionality and the continuous improvement of an established, business-critical platform.

What You Will Do

Who You Are

• A bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field


• At least three years of professional experience with Java


• Experience developing applications with a modern framework such as Spring


• Experience with Git, Maven, and relational databases


• The ability to design reusable, robust, and maintainable software components


• A strong awareness of software quality and engineering best practices


• Experience writing unit and integration tests


• Good problem-solving skills and a willingness to take ownership


• An interest in payment systems, integrations, and business-critical backend applications


• Experience with Linux, CI/CD pipelines, containers, Kubernetes, or cloud platforms is an advantage, but not a requirement.
