EnBW IT SOLUTIONS in Lisbon is seeking an experienced Enterprise Java Developer to design, build and maintain scalable Java applications and cloud-native services for EnBW’s Enterprise Trading platforms. You will own tasks across the full software lifecycle, including integrations with Endur and data processing using Kafka and REST APIs.

The role requires 3+ years in enterprise Java, strong Spring, APIs and microservices skills, plus SQL and DevSecOps experience.

• 3+ years in enterprise Java development, Java 17+ preferred.
• Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, REST APIs and microservices.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with PostgreSQL or Oracle.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, Git and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with distributed systems, DevSecOps and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience with energy trading or financial services is a plus.
• English language proficiency; Portuguese/German are advantages.

Responsabilidades

• Design, develop and maintain scalable Java applications and cloud-native services for EnBW’s Enterprise Trading platforms.
• Build integrations between Endur and enterprise apps using Kafka, REST APIs, and messaging.
• Develop RESTful APIs, microservices and event-driven applications; contribute to architecture and standards.
• Improve ops efficiency by automating processes and developing monitoring workflows.
• Help modernise applications and migrate to strategic tech platforms while improving quality and resilience.
• Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD and code reviews; assist in production issue resolution.
• Collaborate with Product Manager, Tech Lead and cross-functional teams; support backlog and sprints.
• Mentor junior developers and share knowledge across Lisbon, Germany and the UK.

Your tasks

• Enterprise Java Development: Design, develop and maintain scalable, resilient Java applications and cloud-native services for EnBW’s Enterprise Trading platforms, taking ownership throughout the full software development lifecycle
• Integration & Data Processing: Build integrations between Endur and enterprise applications using Apache Kafka, REST APIs and messaging technologies, including workflows for publishing trade and market data in JSON format and high-performance processing frameworks
• APIs & Event-Driven Architecture: Develop RESTful APIs, microservices and event-driven applications while contributing to application architecture, technical standards and reusable engineering patterns
• Automation & Monitoring: Improve operational efficiency by automating business processes, reporting and market data ingestion, and by developing monitoring workflows that provide transparency across services and operational processes
• Modernisation & Engineering Excellence: Help modernise applications and migrate them to strategic technology platforms, simplifying architectures and continuously improving software quality, security, performance, maintainability and operational resilience
• Quality & DevOps: Deliver clean, well-tested and documented code, contribute to automated testing and CI/CD pipelines, participate in code reviews and ensure solutions meet agreed quality, security and performance standards. You also investigate production issues and implement sustainable fixes
• Agile Collaboration: Working closely with the Product Manager, Technical Lead and cross-functional teams, you translate business requirements into technical solutions, contribute to solution design and support backlog refinement, sprint planning and estimation
• International Teamwork & Knowledge Sharing: Share your expertise, mentor junior developers and collaborate across Lisbon, Germany and the UK to continuously strengthen engineering practices and ways of working

Your profile

• You bring at least 3 years of experience in enterprise Java development, ideally with Java 17+, and have strong object-oriented programming and software design skills
• Your technical expertise includes Spring Boot, Spring Framework, REST APIs, microservices, JPA/Hibernate and build tools such as Maven or Gradle
• You are confident working with Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, Git, CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native architectures, ideally with experience in distributed systems and DevSecOps
• Strong SQL skills, experience with PostgreSQL or Oracle, and knowledge of Kafka or comparable messaging technologies and event-driven architectures complement your development background
• You are experienced in automated testing, secure coding, debugging and production support and are comfortable working throughout the full Agile software development lifecycle
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills help you collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering and business teams
• Ideally, you have worked with high-volume, business-critical applications in Energy Trading, Commodities Trading or Financial Services
• Additional experience with Openlink Endur (including Report Builder, Connex integrations, valuation, market data, trade capture and settlements) as well as AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor or Claude Code and AI integration patterns such as MCP is a plus
• You speak confidently in English; Portuguese and/or German are considered an advantage

EnBW's Enterprise Trading IT team develops and maintains the business-critical applications and services supporting energy trading. Our Lisbon engineers work as one integrated team with Product Managers, Technical Leads, Business Analysts and Architects across Portugal, Germany and the UK. We are modernising the trading application landscape through Java, cloud-native engineering, automation and AI-assisted development, with a focus on resilience, maintainability and secure delivery.
