Wise Pirates is seeking a Frontend Developer to build websites and e-commerce stores using Shopify and WordPress/WooCommerce. You will work across the product life cycle in a high-performing team, crafting not just templates but interactive experiences.

You will ensure performance budgets, accessibility per WCAG 2.1 AA, and collaborate with design, UX, and R&D to deliver creative front-ends for commerce projects.

Qualificações

• 2–4 years building for the web on real projects with real traffic.
• Bachelor or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP.
• Strong proficiency in WordPress/WooCommerce and/or Shopify; experience with other e-commerce projects.
• Working knowledge of a modern JavaScript framework; React as the preferred framework and TypeScript in a typed codebase.
• AI literacy with practical understanding of LLMs, agents, memory, context, and secure practices.
• Fluency in English and Portuguese.

As a Frontend Developer, you will develop websites and e-commerce stores using Shopify and WordPress/WooCommerce technologies, in all phases of the product life cycle, as part of a high-performing and multi-disciplinary team.

The work is broader than a template. Alongside websites and stores you will build app front ends and the interactive and experience projects our creative and R&D teams take on, which is where the more unusual briefs come from. It is a good seat for someone early in their career who wants range rather than one stack repeated.

Two things have raised the bar recently, and they are worth knowing before you apply. Performance is measured and it moves revenue, so Core Web Vitals are part of the job rather than a report someone runs afterwards. And accessibility stopped being optional: clients selling to EU consumers fall under the European Accessibility Act, with WCAG 2.1 AA as the working standard. Neither is something you are expected to arrive an expert in, but both are things you will be expected to care about.

Key Responsibilities

• Implementing Design: Implement a design made by a UX/UI designer on Figma, faithfully and without losing what made it work.
• Front-End Components: Develop front-end components in order to improve responsiveness and overall performance.
• Performance: Build to a performance budget and keep an eye on Core Web Vitals, INP included, because on commerce sites they move revenue rather than only a score.
• Accessibility: Build to WCAG 2.1 AA as a default: semantic markup, keyboard paths, focus states and contrast, checked as you go rather than fixed at the end.
• Experience Projects: Contribute to interactive and experience work alongside the creative and R&D teams, where the brief is less standard and the front end is the product.
• Testing & QA: Manage testing and debugging and participate in quality assurance.
• Agile Delivery: Participate in an agile project management system based on multiple sprints.
• Initiative: Propose ideas and lead initiatives to solve client needs, and be proactive in searching for new ways of doing tasks.
• Project Communication: Respond to a project manager and build a trusting relationship by keeping them informed on updates, blockers, and proposing real, doable deadlines.
• Team Contribution: Help proactively solve problems and give improvement suggestions within the front-end team, and participate in gathering meetings with other developers, designers and e-commerce managers.
• Support: Provide website support by working on tweaks and fixes, based on monthly hour packs.

Technical & Platform Skills

• Experience: 2 to 4 years building for the web, on real projects with real traffic. The seat is open across that range, and we adjust scope to the person rather than the other way around.
• Education: Bachelor or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or any other related area, or equivalent experience.
• Core languages: Proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP.
• Platforms: Strong proficiency in WordPress/WooCommerce and/or Shopify, and previous experience with other websites and e-commerce projects.
• Modern front end: Working knowledge of a modern JavaScript framework, React being the one we use most, and enough TypeScript to be comfortable in a typed codebase.
• Craft under pressure: Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment, and to hand work over in a state someone else can pick up.
• AI literacy: Literacy in Tech and AI subjects, and practical understanding of how LLMs and agents work: context, tools, memory, and why the same prompt can return different answers. Sophisticated use of AI platforms, both with efficiency and security.
• Languages: Fluency in English and Portuguese.

• Proficiency with JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular, Vue.js).
• PHP frameworks (Laravel, CodeIgniter) and databases (MySQL, MariaDB).
• API integrations, and knowledge of Webflow, Lovable and similar platforms.
• Experience using ClickUp as a project management tool.
• App front ends, whether native, React Native or Flutter.
• Animation and interaction work: GSAP, WebGL, Three.js or canvas, for the experience projects.
