Job Summary

The overall role purpose is to set the strategy and lead the execution of activities to become the top Commercial business in Tanzania. The role holder will oversee the Commercial side of the Business Banking function and other products such as Business Islamic Finance, Merchant acquiring, and Insurance. The primary objective is to maximize sustainable risk-adjusted portfolio contribution on an aggregate team basis.

Job Description

Job Purpose

The overall purpose is to set the strategy and lead activities to make our Commercial business in Tanzania the best. The role involves overseeing the Commercial segment of Business Banking and related products, aiming to maximize risk-adjusted portfolio contribution.

Accountabilities:

  1. Driving Business Development and Growth - 40%
  2. Deliver growth of the Commercial segment through acquisition, retention, and expansion strategies.
  3. Make major operational and investment decisions, including planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  4. Evaluate and recommend strategies for the Commercial Business to senior leadership.
  5. Monitor KPIs and implement strategies to meet growth targets.
  6. Lead origination and execution of complex transactions.
  7. Drive team performance and portfolio profitability by identifying new opportunities.
  8. Research market threats and opportunities.
  9. Communicate key messages to customers and stakeholders.
  • Customer Service Management - 25%
  • Act as the face of Business Banking in the market, developing networks.
  • Understand market trends and develop strategies accordingly.
  • Identify new markets and product opportunities.
  • Build a motivated, customer-focused team and ensure service excellence.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and handle complaints effectively.
  • People Management and Development - 25%
  • Lead and develop the Commercial team to high standards.
  • Plan resources, attract talent, and manage performance.
  • Foster a high-performance culture and support staff development.
  • Manage HR processes and motivate staff through recognition.
  • Risk, Control, and Compliance Management – 10%
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies.
  • Manage risks and improve governance and controls.
  • Address financial crime matters promptly.
  • Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related fields.
    • At least 5 years of experience in emerging markets' business banking.
    • Proven credit risk analysis and relationship management skills.
