Job summary

Michael Page is recruiting a General Ledger Accountant for a multinational Automotive client in Porto, Portugal. The role focuses on general ledger processes, fixed assets, leases, and month-end close, with English required.

You will work within the new Regional Shared Service Centre, supporting governance with internal clients across Spain and Portugal, and participate in transition migrations and training of the team.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting or Finance and professional certification is a plus.
• 3–7 years of accounting experience with strong GL background.
• Knowledge of accounting principles and financial standards.
• Ability to perform complex financial analyses and provide recommendations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with stakeholders.
• Fluency in English; willingness to travel in Europe.

Responsibilities

• Fixed assets: manage asset records and depreciation calculations.
• Leases: maintain lease data for proper accounting.
• FA subledger: reconcile with general ledger and close subledgers.
• GL close: perform month-end close and data transfers to GL.
• Journal entries: record timely and accurate entries.
• Trial balance: review for discrepancies and resolve errors.
• Consolidation: run preliminary consolidation checks.
• Notes to financial statements: prepare notes for external reporting.
• Compliance: ensure policies and regulations are met for audits.
• Governance: support GL Tower Lead with KPIs and reports for Spain/Portugal.
• Transition: contribute to migrations to SSC Porto; training and process docs.
• Training and development: coach and develop team members.

• Looking for a General Ledger Accountant - English Speaker.

Our client is a large organization in the Automotive industry, with a global presence. The group is now preparing for the implementation of a new Regional Shared Service Centre.

Description

• Fixed Assets: Create and manage fixed asset records accurately within the system. Run and review depreciation calculations to ensure correctness and compliance;
• Leases: Identify lease agreements and maintain lease data for accurate accounting treatment;
• FA subledger: Close fixed asset subledger activities and reconcile with the general ledger to ensure alignment;
• GL close: Close and transfer data from general ledger sources as part of the financial closing process;
• Journal entries: Record journal entries in a timely and accurate manner to reflect financial transactions;
• Trial balance: Review the trial balance to identify and resolve discrepancies or errors;
• Consolidation: Perform preliminary consolidation processes and conduct necessary checks to support reporting;
• Notes to Financial Statements: Prepare external financial reporting and draft notes to the financial statements in compliance with regulatory standards;
• Compliance: Ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations and preparing necessary documents for audits;
• Governance with internal clients: supporting the GL Tower Lead in the governance bodies with the internal clients (entities based in Spain and Portugal), preparing and following-up on KPIs reports, performance reports;
• Transition support: Active contribution in process migrations from Europe countries to the SSC Porto (trainings, understanding local processes, process documentation);
• Training and Development: Train and develop the skills of team members.

Profile

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A professional certification (e.g., CC) is a plus;
• 3 to 7 years of experience in Accounting, with significant experience in General Ledger accounting;
• In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and financial standards;
• Ability to perform complex financial analyses and provide strategic recommendations;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with internal stakeholders;
• Proficiency in English;
• Ability to travel around Europe Region for the first 2 to 3 months (migration period from local entities towards the SSC in Porto);
• Experience working in an SSC environment is a plus;
• Proficiency in any other European languages is a plus (French, Dutch, Flemish, German, Polish, Spanish, Catalunya, Irish, etc).
