Position Overview:
TASIS Portugal is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled, and reflective Elementary Teacher to join our Lower School faculty on a full-time basis from October 2026.
The successful candidate will teach in a co-teaching partnership, sharing planning, instruction, assessment, and responsibility for a single class of students. Our Lower School is built on a coherent, knowledge-rich curriculum that sequences history, geography, science, literature, math, and the arts year over year, so that what students learn in one grade becomes the foundation for the next. We believe broad, deep content knowledge is what makes strong readers, writers, and thinkers, and we are looking for a teacher who shares that conviction and brings genuine enthusiasm for the content itself.
Across all subjects, we value explicit, well-structured teaching. Lessons are carefully modeled, move purposefully from teacher demonstration to guided practice to independent work, and keep every student actively responding and accountable throughout. We are equally committed to making students' thinking visible: the ideal candidate uses structured routines that invite students to observe closely, explain their reasoning, ask questions, and build on one another's ideas, so that discussion is rigorous and every voice counts.
We hold high expectations for both learning and conduct. The successful candidate will establish clear, consistent routines, use instructional time well, check for understanding consistantly, and create a warm, orderly classroom culture in which students feel safe to take intellectual risks and are expected to give their best effort.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
Plan and deliver content-rich lessons (Language Arts, History and Geography, Science, Math, and Social Emotional Learning) that build knowledge systematically over time
Familiarity with American curriculum standards and experience in an international school setting would be a strong advantage.
