Cronos Europa Portugal, the Lisbon delivery centre, seeks an experienced software engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable server-side and front-end applications. You will work on Java/Spring Boot backends and Angular front-ends, delivering end-to-end features, tests, and code quality improvements.

Cronos Europa is an IT consulting company exclusively focused on the European Union institutions, agencies, and bodies. With over 1,200 professionals across Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, and Portugal, we deliver application development, IT operations, maintenance, and support services for some of Europe's most critical digital infrastructure.

Cronos Europa Portugal is our Lisbon delivery centre, opened in 2026 and growing fast. This is a position on our own internal team, not a placement with a third party.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain server-side applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Design and evolve REST APIs and data models.
• Develop and maintain Angular applications and components.
• Deliver end-to-end features across both front-end and back-end layers.
• Write and maintain unit, integration, and automated tests.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to software quality initiatives.
• Investigate and resolve production issues, performance bottlenecks, and data-related incidents.
• Contribute to framework upgrades, technology modernization, and security remediation activities.
• Work closely with analysts, architects, and stakeholders to define and implement solutions.
• Maintain technical documentation and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Technical skills:

• Strong experience with Java 17+ and Spring Boot.
• Experience with Angular 18+, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Solid knowledge of REST API design and integration.
• Experience with relational databases, SQL, JPA, and ORM frameworks.
• Experience with Git and code review practices.
• Knowledge of automated testing frameworks such as JUnit and Angular testing tools.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools, Docker, and code quality platforms such as SonarQube is considered an asset.
• Experience with eUI, EU institution projects, or major Java/Angular migrations is a plus.

Profile:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Autonomous, proactive, and capable of driving tasks to completion with limited supervision.
• Team player with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work in a dynamic, multi-project environment.
• Fluency in English is required; French is a strong asset.
