Ferbgás Renováveis |Biometano| seeks an experienced ESG professional to implement the ESG plan across projects in Portugal. The role involves data collection, reporting, and coordinating with management, suppliers and investors to ensure compliance with ESG commitments.

The candidate will work on-site with project teams, translate policies into actionable tasks, and oversee procedures and controls for environmental, social and governance aspects across the lifecycle of biomethane projects.

Qualificações

• Degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability or a relevant field.
• Experience in environmental, sustainability or ESG roles (4+ years).
• Knowledge of emissions inventories and the GHG Protocol.
• Familiarity with sustainability, traceability and emissions reductions in biomethane or bioenergy.
• Strong written and spoken communication in Portuguese and English.

About Ferbgás

Ferbgás develops biomethane projects in Portugal, contributing to waste recovery, the circular economy and decarbonisation.

The mission

Turn Ferbgás’ ESG commitments into practical action: implement procedures, collect and analyse data, work on site with project teams, solve problems and demonstrate delivery of agreed actions.

We are looking for someone who carries out the work directly, from drafting a policy to checking its implementation, working closely with management, project teams, suppliers, contractors and investors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Implement the ESG plan

• Implement and monitor the ESG action plan for Ferbgás and its project companies.
• Establish the ESG quarterly and annual reporting
• Establish and maintain ESG database
• Translate commitments into tasks, accountable owners, deadlines and verifiable results.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures and control tools appropriate to the company’s activities.
• Keep the action register up to date, gather evidence of compliance and address deviations.
• Identify resource needs and escal… obstacles requiring management decisions.

Apply ESG requirements across projects

• Integrate ESG requirements into project development, contracting, construction and operation.
• Visit project sites and verify implementation of procedures and commitments.
• Implement controls for feedstock sustainability and traceability.
• Monitor methane emissions, digestate management and recovery, waste, water, odours and biodiversity.
• Maintain a register of each project’s environmental and social obligations and monitor compliance.
• Follow up on climate risk assessments and implement adaptation measures within the role’s remit.

Produce data indicators and reports

• Create and maintain a simple system for collecting, validating and consolidating ESG data.
• Collect information from teams, suppliers and contractors and check its quality.
• Prepare the greenhouse gas emissions inventory and document the calculations and assumptions used.
• Prepare quarterly and annual ESG reports within the deadlines agreed with investors.
• Prepare the annual sustainability report.
• Keep documentation organised for audits, external verification and financing processes.
• Ensure prompt internal communication of ESG incidents and follow up on corrective measures.

Work with suppliers and contractors

• Apply ESG criteria when assessing, selecting and monitoring suppliers and contractors.
• Prepare ESG requirements for inclusion in contracts and verify compliance.
• Collect and analyse service providers’ environmental, social, and health and safety indicators.
• Identify non‑compliance, agree corrective actions and follow them through to completion.

Implement ethics people and community engagement practices

• Develop and implement procedures covering ethics, human rights, anti‑corruption and responsible business conduct.
• Establish mechanisms to receive, record and address grievances.
• Prepare and deliver internal training on ESG procedures.
• Participate in community engagement and monitor commitments made by projects.

Respond to investors and audits

• Prepare responses and documentation for investors, lenders and auditors.
• Implement actions arising from due diligence reviews and audits.
• Support external verification and ensure corrective actions are closed out.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

• Degree in Environmental Engineering, Engineering, Sustainability or a relevant field.
• At least four years of experience in environmental, sustainability or ESG roles, preferably in energy, industry, waste or infrastructure.
• Demonstrable implementation experience: developing and applying procedures, collecting and processing data, monitoring projects and responding to audits.
• Knowledge of emissions inventories and the GHG Protocol.
• Knowledge of the EU Taxonomy and sustainability requirements applicable to renewable energy.
• Familiarity with sustainability, traceability and emissions reductions in biomethane or bioenergy.
• Ability to translate technical and contractual requirements into practical actions.
• Ability to organise work independently and follow multiple priorities through to completion.
• Comfortable working both with documentation and data and on project sites.
• Strong written and spoken communication skills in Portuguese and English.
• Willingness to travel to project sites in Portugal.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

• Experience in biomethane, biogas, waste recovery or bioenergy.
• Knowledge of RED III and certification schemes such as ISCC EU or REDcert.
• Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
• Experience reporting to investors and lenders.
• Involvement in projects during construction and operation.
• Experience with ESG audits and action plans arising from due diligence reviews.

PRIORITIES FOR THE FIRST SIX MONTHS

• Review the existing ESG plan and establish priorities, accountable owners and an implementation schedule.
• Implement priority actions due during this period and gather supporting evidence.
• Establish the company quarterly and annual reporting.
• Put the data collection system into operation and deliver the scheduled reports.
• Develop and implement priority policies and procedures.
• Apply ESG requirements to key suppliers and contractors.
• Visit project sites, identify deviations and follow up on their resolution.
• Deliver the initial internal training sessions.
• Report progress, risks and decisions needed to deliver the plan to management.

• Working closely with development, engineering, construction, operations and finance teams.
