Nadara is hiring an Environmental & Biodiversity Specialist to ensure regulatory compliance for onshore wind and solar assets, focusing on birds, bats, and protected flora and fauna. You’ll collaborate with the HSQE team, developers, and authorities to strengthen environmental management and sustainability goals.

Your role involves monitoring biodiversity, implementing EMPs, and supporting ISO 14001; travel across Europe is required.

Qualificações

  • Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in environmental management, preferably within renewable energy.
  • Proven track record in bird and bat detection, monitoring, and mitigation projects.
  • Experience liaising with local environmental authorities and conducting ISO 14001 audits and field inspections.
  • Proficiency in Office 365 collaboration tools and SharePoint.
  • Fluent in English and Portuguese and/or Spanish.
  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Support the ISO 14001 EMS implementation and improvements.
  • Conduct environmental site inspections and risk assessments with mitigation recommendations.
  • Provide environmental guidance to project and operational teams.
  • Travel across Nadara’s sites in Europe.

Job Description Summary: Reporting to the HSE Corporate Manager, the Environmental & Biodiversity Specialist will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental and biodiversity regulations across Nadara’s onshore wind and solar assets, while proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating environmental risks associated with the Company’s operations – with particular focus on the detection and mitigation of impacts on birds, bats, and other protected flora and fauna. The Environmental & Biodiversity Specialist will collaborate closely with Nadara’s HSQE Team, Development & Construction and Country O&M teams and their respective workers, as well as with external consultants, environmental authorities, and contractors. This role will be pivotal in strengthening Nadara’s environmental management system and advancing the Organisation’s biodiversity and sustainability objectives by implementing effective strategies that promote environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement

Key responsibilities and Authorities
  • Ensure compliance with EU environmental legislation, permits, and regulatory obligations, including Natura 2000, EIA, water, waste, and other relevant frameworks.
  • Act as the point of contact with competent authorities for all environmental aspects of operational sites and new projects.
  • Prepare and submit required environmental reports and follow-up action plans in coordination with local authorities.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Environmental Management Plans (EMP) and biodiversity action plans for construction, operation, and decommissioning phases.
  • Coordinate and supervise biodiversity monitoring programs, including ornithological (bird) and chiropteran (bat) studies, and other flora and fauna surveys relevant to wind and solar assets.
  • Manage and optimise fauna detection and protection systems (e.g. camera-based automatic turbine shutdown, radar, and acoustic deterrent systems for birds and bats), ensuring operational effectiveness and accurate data reporting.
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
  • Conduct environmental site inspections and audits, identify risks, and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Stay updated on evolving environmental and biodiversity legislation and industry best practices, providing guidance to Nadara’s project and operational teams.
  • Provide environmental awareness training to site teams, service providers, and contractors.
  • Support project teams in Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and permitting processes.
  • Support emergency response planning related to spills, contamination, or biodiversity incidents.
  • Contribute to ESG reporting and sustainability performance indicators.
  • Liaise with environmental NGOs, experts, and local communities on biodiversity and conservation-related matters.
Technical and cross Competences (Preferrable)
  • In-depth knowledge of EU environmental and biodiversity regulations, permitting processes, and frameworks (e.g. Natura 2000, EIA).
  • Solid understanding of ecological monitoring techniques and mitigation measures for birds, bats, and other protected flora and fauna.
  • Knowledge of wildlife detection and protection systems (camera-based, radar, and acoustic deterrent).
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001 management systems and reporting tools.
  • Skilled in interpreting and managing environmental data and GIS mapping.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy technologies, particularly onshore wind and solar.
  • Rigorous, detail-oriented, and analytical; field-oriented, proactive, and solution-driven, able to address operational and regulatory challenges effectively.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills with local authorities, NGOs, and communities.
  • Ability to manage priorities, projects, and multidisciplinary teams independently and collaboratively.
  • Constructive, professional, and adaptable in interactions with internal and external stakeholders, responding to changing regulations and site conditions.
Education and Qualifications
  • Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in environmental management, preferably within the renewable energy sector (onshore wind and/or solar).
  • Proven track record in bird and bat detection, monitoring, and mitigation projects, and other flora and fauna studies applicable to wind and solar assets.
  • Experience liaising with local environmental authorities and conducting ISO 14001 audits and field inspections.

Travel Requirements

Availability to travel across Nadara’s sites in Europe.

Pay and benefits

Salary range: 40k-60k + variable bonus and benefits. The compensation range indicated in the job posting represents an estimated average range for the position. The final remuneration will be determined based on the selected candidate’s experience, skills and qualifications, in accordance with EU pay transparency.
